CPAP newbie..how am I doing after 10 days

Post by twitter007 » Tue Jun 25, 2019 7:38 pm

Folks,

Two months ago, I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea ( AHI of 15.3). My sleep doctor has prescribed a AutoPAP machine with pressure range of 8-20. I've been using them for 10 days now and my average AHI is around 7 now. I'm sleeping better than before and feel a bit less sleepy during the day. Just wanted to post my chart to see if folks see anything interesting.

I found this forum just before I started using the machine and found tons of useful information. My sincere thanks to all the contributors.

Welcome to the forum.

About how many times are you waking during the night?

The bulk of your AHI is central in nature...if you are waking often those centrals might not be real asleep centrals.
If you are sleeping soundly....the bulk of your AHI is central in nature and more pressure won't necessarily prevent centrals....so I would suggest reducing EPR exhale relief or turning it off if you can comfortable go without it and lets see if those centrals are related to using EPR or not.

If you are waking often...I would just concentrate on fixing whatever it might be causing the wake ups if you know what might be causing the wake ups. I know easier said than done sometimes but false positive flagging can elevate the AHI and if you aren't asleep when something gets flagged then it simply doesn't factor into the evaluation process. You must be asleep for any flagged events to matter.

Thanks Pugsy for your quick and detailed reply.

I probably wake up 3-4 times in a night.

My doctor mentioned in the initial prescription that central apnea should reduce over a period of time once I started using the machine. Hopefully, he is right.

I have been using the machine for 11 days only. I'll monitor the results for a week or two more and then try with reduced EPR exhale relief.

Regards

My wife's charts looked a lot worse than that when she first started. They were afraid she would need an ASV for her centrals, but they settled down over time. She requires quite a bit of pressure which made her centrals worse for a few months. It took about four months to get her centrals under control.

You've got a bunch of things turned off in your chart.. look at the pulldown box in the lower left corner under the charts, and then on everything that's red.

Hi Palerider,

I'm posting yesterday's chart with all the events turned on. Please let me know if I am still missing somethings.

Thanks

That got back some of the stuff, but you've still turned off some of the events (note, you've got a lot of central apenas, but there's nothing listed above the pie chart about it.

Go into 'file, preferences, events, and click 'reset defaults' in the lower left corner of that window.

How about this one? I noticed that CSR and centrals have been added to the pie chart.

Much better. I'd raise the minimum pressure up to 10, there's a lot of things happening that are causing it to jump back up, and that just leads to disturbed sleep.

I changed the minimum to 10 for 6 days and didn't notice much difference. So, I changed the pressure to the original value of 8-14 and reduced the EPR to 1. That seems to have helped a bit. Attached is yesterday's chart and also a summary from last months. Please let me know if anything stands out.
