I voted for him also, he came off a little crazy, but compared to what we have had since, he looks sane. Smart, and truly thought he could help our country, I think he would have if it could even be helped back then. I believe him to be a Patriot. R.I.P. ! Jim

I share the expressions of goodwill for Ross Perot. I never voted for him but I always admired his patriotism and his concern for the economy of our country. And I admired his hard work and business acumen that took him from life as a hustling IBM rep to fame and riches. A great American!!

He definitely got your attention. I liked him. He wasn't another suit that would sell out to special interest.

I remember that election. I voted for him in the primary.

Story time: Took a tour of the National Archives in D.C. in the late 90's. It was when they had an original copy of the Magna Carta on display. The tour guide related the story of how they got it. I've no idea if this is true or how embellished it may be - just relating what I was told.

Seems it was found stored away somewhere in England in private hands and was offered for sale. Perot bought it and sent a courier to go fetch it. The courier asked if they had a protective case and they replied, "We found it in this manilla envelope". So, the courier put it back in the envelope, put it in his portfolio case and returned to the USA. On entry in one of the NYC airports, customs asked him if he had anything to declare. The courier said, "just an original copy of the Magna Carta". They thought he was being a smart-ass and waved him on through.

Perot loaned it to the National Archives for public display and when they originally set it up in a protected display case, they had it roped off where you could not get within several feet of it. Perot asked them to get rid of the ropes saying, "I want folks to be able to put their nose on the glass if they need to get that close to see it."

That's how it was when I was there. You could touch the glass. And though it looked ancient, it was in perfectly readable condition.
