Trying to donate 2 of our cpap machines
Trying to donate 2 of our cpap machines
Hi guys. I am quite frustrated trying to do a good thing. My spouse and I have each a CPAP machine. Mine was hardly used ( maybe 3 or 4 times altogether) his was used frequently for about 2 years. Nothing wrong with them. Now we each got a new one from our healthcare provider for free. First I thought I'd sell them online, but those companies seem a bit too picky and didn't want to bother with it. Now, I just googled to actually do a nice thing and donate them. My goodness. I am seriously expected to pay for shipping two heavy CPAP machines to give away for free? Yes, sure I am offered to have this amount also deducted from my taxes. But I do find this a bit too much to ask for. Those CPAP machines do cost a lot of money and the last thing is to put money out to have them shipped to give them away. Any idea, where I can donate them to where I do not have to pay for shipping? I just do not want to end up paying $ 80.- shipping for something I am giving away for free.

Welcome to the forum.
My first bit of advice...keep the old machines as back up or travel machines. You never know when or if your new machine might just up and die on you.
Second bit of advice...if you are bound and determined to get them out of your house and want to donate them.
Just list them here...all the specifics about them and someone might need or want what you have and would be more than willing to pay for shipping. Depending on where you are at and where they are going...I have mailed machines in the US for as little as $20...most maybe $25.
There are people on this forum in need ...we help those people whenever we can.

Can you tell me about the models?

I would suggest you keep at least one of them. You never know when your new machines could break or quit. That way you have a back up.

Keep the machines for travel or back up in case something happens to your main units.Udo wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 1:16 pmHi guys. I am quite frustrated trying to do a good thing. Here's a place to donate. I'm not sure if they cover shipping, but you can contact them.

BTW, I suggest you keep one the old machines as a backup. Unless you have identical prescriptions, make sure you know how to adjust it.

Re: Trying to donate 2 of our cpap machines
When I got my new Resmed AirSense 10 this year, I tried to find a place to donate my older, backup machines that still worked. I always keep the most recently used machine as backup.
After doing an online search, I found that many of the charitable organizations will only accept used CPAP machines that are five years old or less. Paying for shipping was also a factor. I tried calling local homeless shelters but they either didn't accept used CPAP equipment or didn't return my call. I don't know if local skilled nursing homes can accept used CPAP equipment since it's a medical device by Rx, but I'm sure there are people that might not be able to afford them there.
Since I'd hoped to help someone who might not be able to afford CPAP equipment, I eventually gave one away by posting it on Freecycle locally. Unfortunately, the other ended up being recycled as e-Waste.
If I'd known that I could donate my equipment by posting through cpaptalk.com, I would have!

Re: Trying to donate 2 of our cpap machines
Hi, am looking for a used cpap machine to buy. Am 30yrs old from the Philippines and am currently trying to recover from an eating disorder. The edema from recovery efforts has led to sleep apnea which is then believed to cause the edema to stay/worsen. It has become a vicious cycle--the edema causing sleep apnea and the sleep apnea making the edema worse/stay. I will be very much willing to buy one unit and cover the shipping costs. May I ask the brand of the machine and if it has data capability? Many thanks.
Re: Trying to donate 2 of our cpap machines
She no longer has the machines, but... go onto Secondwindcpap.com and find one - they will be refurbished (fixed like new) and come with some guarantees... they are a terrific company to deal with and stand behind their stuff. Many of us have 'shopped' there. You'll have to pay something, of course, but less than regular dealers.
