Do custom settings get overwritten remotely?

Post by danis » Fri May 03, 2019 9:45 am

Hi All

I received a prescription today for CPAP with pressure set to 10 and return for a sleep study after 4 weeks. That test was done at the sleep lab with nasal mask, and based on the reviews on this forum, I am going to start with full face mask F20 with memory foam.
Also, based on what I have read here, the sleep is different every night and the pressure should be set to a range from say 8-12 if optimal pressure is 10.

I am getting the machine online instead of local rep recommended by the doctor (bad reviews and slow processing times). The rep from the online shop suggested that the machine will be auto, but they will only set it to 10 as the prescription is not for Auto. They said after a couple of nights, I can request my doctor to call them and they can change the settings remotely.

I also saw a video where if home and dial button are pressed together, I can change the settings.

So, my questions:
1. Should I worry about starting with a high static / fixed pressure of 10 or just start with it and see how it goes (even if I am changing the mask that's recommended with this 10 setting).
2. If I change the settings by pressing home and dial button, will it be overwritten when the machine calls home for compliance reporting?

I am thinking of getting resmed 10 auto or phillips dream station auto.

Thanks
Danis

I have the Philips.

My prescription from the test was a set 10 pressure but I was not feeling very well and brought my issues here. It was suggested to switch to auto and give the machine some room to work since sleep is different each night.
I switched the settings myself based on advice here. 10-14 this way if the machine needs more pressure it has it, I've never been higher that 11 but that just shows that at times I needed more pressure

Has far as I know the Philips dream station I have can not be set remotely..

Most likely NOT. The setting of 10 seems like arbitrary without a sleep study. The 8-12 or 8-20 seems more realistic.

1) don't worry, but do pull the data and evaluate it.
2) no, not when it "calls home", only if they send a new RX.

Get a Resmed autoset very Superior to the dreamstation.

Thanks. I ordered resmed 10 auto, with F20 masks. They were not sure what size memory foam cushion, so they included 2 large and 1 medium. I have 21 days to change the cushion size.

Danis, you are off to a good start here, with an excellent machine on the way. When your gear arrives, a couple of suggestions:

Watch some online videos about how to fit your mask,
Check that there is an SD card in your machine and get one if there isn’t,
Get an SD card reader if you need one,
Download Oscar (link in palerider’s profile).

Try using the mask and machine while you do something you enjoy, e.g., watching TV or reading, so that you can get used to the feel of it before your first night.

When you have a couple of nights of data downloaded into Oscar, you can post screen shots so that the experts here can take a look. If you do that, they will also find it helpful to know how you slept.

Good luck!
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

They are closed now. I will call on Monday AM to confirm. I used a good company headquartered in Asheville, NC (not sure if I can post names).

If you know how to change your settings, just go in periodically and make sure they haven't changed (and if they did, change them back).

If they get really obnoxious and keep making changes (not likely), you can remove the modem, If you do this, put it back one per week, manually send the results to the provider at that time, and recheck your settings after you remove the modem. Your CPAP stores at least one month's worth (probably more) of data, and will catch-up when you do this.

Please stop posting stupid things, the modem in the OPs machine is built in... it would require disassembling and reassembling their machine to do what you suggest.
