This article isn't necessarily about sleep apnea, but what's it's about could lead to another treatment option or possibly a cure?

Yes, interesting article, thanks!!

But I had trouble getting past the part where the guy died because his respirator was accidentally unattached. Darn! How horrible! They need a device to keep that from happening!

Thanks for the interesting article.

Interesting. Unfortunately from what I've read (and I could easily be misinformed) no one is suggesting in any of the various experiments (completed or planned) that this is likely to lead to a cure. I think they can interfere with, or block, nerve function (action potential) at low thresholds, but 'positive' stimulation is another matter. It may assist in reducing required pressures for PAP therapy though...

At least today we have viable alternatives to either a hole in the neck or no treatment at all.

It is interesting-and while SDB may not be mentioned-it does seem that there could be applications in central sleep apnea. The problem in direct application of the research is that the person has to think about the action to be taken-so you would have to keep thinking about breathing and go to sleep. Maybe the computer interface could be put in repeat mode.
