Waking up early

Post by Slyverc » Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:14 am

Hi. I am new to the forum. I have a Phillips DreamStation and have been using it for several years, but have had the same problem the whole time. I get 6 hours of sleep, but wake up at 4:30 every morning with dry throat and blood “rushing” in my head. My extremities are freezing and then as I wake up, i get very hot and sweat. I feel like I must be not breathing and then wake up all of a sudden. I am always in a dreaming sleep and wake up very suddenly. The dr says my machine and treatment are working. I don’t think my machine is giving me enough pressure. Is it possible that the APAP isn’t responding?

If you fill out your profile and tell us what machine you have, we may be able to help you use free software to upload your data so we can answer your question. Some machines don't collect the data needed, though. So we need to know your exact model to be able to tell you if you can access useful efficacy data on your machine.

It may be that you need a pressure adjustment because your pressure needs change in deep REM sleep, but that's not the only thing to explain it. If your data is limited (or your doctor hasn't even bothered to look), then your doctor doesn't really have a way to know for sure if it's "working" or not.

Are you female around menopausal age? That might explain your 4:30 wake ups--it's like clockwork for me always at 4:40, and those are the symptoms.

Another thing it might be is that our bodies (especially if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic) start an insulin surge around that time to begin the process of waking you up for the day. If you have any metabolic dysfunction, that surge can cause weird symptoms like you describe. Sometimes that insulin surge triggers gastroesophageal reflux., too.

Data will help you get this all sorted out, but first you have to fill out your user profile.

Hi. I am new to the forum.
welcome aboard. as janknitz says, the experts here are going to need more information. here's a link to get you started-

viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html

the reason for asking information from you is that we are each different in how we respond to this therapy. there ARE some universal truths, but i don't know how they would apply to your situation. something may have changed. something specific to your machine may have to be adjusted. and this can be done by you.

eventually, you may have to get the free sleepyhead software so that you can post charts here for others to review and make helpful suggestions.

but without more info, all the experts can do is guess. and that doesn't do anyone any good.

good luck!
