Just got my order in from Puritans Pride, $450 worth, I hope I don't kill myself, I got some D3 5,000 units. If I take too many can they write a paper on me to publish for a few bucks? Jim
ABSOLUTELY too much! RDA is 400-800 units. Unless you NEED that much.
I took 100,000 units of Vit "A" daily, for 8 months, that Dr. relieved a problem I had that was treated with freezing with Liquid Nitrogen, Acid, and Electric Burning, for two years only to spread and grow worse. I still take a dose of Beta Carotene 25,000 units daily for the last 40 years, as maintenance dose. I also take 3,000 units Vit "C", time release daily.

My Pill boxes are running over. Jim

Not too bad for someone that had to chew Bayer Aspirin to get them down.

Being neutral on D.H. makes ME feel important.
Who is D.H.?
Oh, I forgot--he's on my foe list.
Never mind--I'm sure he belongs there.
So is Bombayone.
Betcha can't guess why . . .

People taking vitamin D supplements who didn’t have vitamin D deficiencies may have higher risks of all-cause mortality and death from cancers.--Ars Technica: The nutrition study the $30B supplement industry doesn’t want you to see.

My endocrinologist (MD) wrote me a prescription for 15,000 IU's of D3 when that made me sick he told me to get the liquid. My neurologist (MD) wantd me on folic acid and Vit E and another told me to take alpha lipoic acid.

I already spend way to much time taking their damn pills that I have to have. And I really wonder if they ever actually talk to each other or pay attention to what I am taking. I take 6 different things in the morning and a different two at night plus some repeats from the morning. That does not include all the damn vitamins, which I only take if my stomach can handle. Then there is the pap machine while I sleep. Grumble. I really dislike doctors.

Most RDAs are set at a level to avoid getting some deficiency disease.

Not because more recent research has shown that higher levels can be beneficial to people's health.

Ok... So who the hell is D.H. ?

I wish I could just take vitamins or suppliments to cure what ails me. Anything to be off the 8092374 heart pills I take a day. The side effects are almost not worth it.

look him up. he is a bit of a character who annoys hell out of a lot of folk here. i find him quaint and not enough of an annoyance to put him on my foe list.

I agree with Palerider.
I take a bit over 18,000 IU/day of Vit D and test a couple times a year to make sure my blood level stays around 75.
I know I spend too much on supplements. When I look back on my 100th birthday, will I say WOW I wasted a lot of money on supplements, or will I say I am sure glad all that money I spent on supplements sure worked.
Stay tuned for my answer. It may be a while.

I take 10,000 IU/day of Vit D3 and test to ensure my levels run 60-70. The more body fat you have the more likely it is that you will need more to increase level. I bet that person was taking D2 which can be toxic. D2 is the plant form and must be converted to D3, the form the body uses. Here's a good article on D which is actually a hormone https://health.howstuffworks.com/wellne ... om-sun.htm

He likes to pop in every so often with some obscure or outdated study that may or may not actually pertain to XPAP. He also tries to give advice once in a while, but most of his advice is questionable at best.

As far as foe lists, I don't to foe anyone, now. We had a member a little while back that I actually put on my foe list, but he is no longer allowed on the forum. If he came back, he has a new user name and has toned his rhetoric down.

I was taking 5000 IU of D3 a day. Had a vitamin D lab test recently, and my blood level (about 88) was about 10% over the highest recommended level. So I've decreased that to about 4000 IU a day. Good idea to get tested if you're taking vitamin D supplement to make sure that you're not getting too much. Or if you're not, to see if you're deficient in vitamin D. What one's actual level is seems pretty personal, depends on a lot of factors including genetics, how much time you spend in the sun, etc. But it's a good idea to find out what your body's vitamin D level is to see where you stand.
