New to ResMed
New to ResMed
I am newly diagnosed with sleep apnea and was fitted for and used the ResMed Airfit N30i for the first time last nite. I had a terrible time sleeping and getting use to the machine. Does it take time to get use to this? Should I use is for a short amount of time each night. I used it for 4 hrs then turned it off. Part of the issue is I am experiencing hay fever and nose was stuffed up which didn't help with nasal plug. Any suggestions of thoughts?

This needs to be treated. Clogged nasal passages will make CPAP more difficult. Are you seeing your family doctor or, better yet, an ENT allergist about this?
I am a believer that everyone with obstructive sleep apnea should be examined thoroughly by an ENT. Sleep apnea, CPAP and any other problems you are having should be discussed.

Welcome.
Yes, it does. Some adapt quickly, others not so fast.
I recommend not taking it off at night, if possible. It's a habit that will be hard to break.
Try wearing the mask (pressurized) at other times of the day to get used to it.

One of the best pieces of advice I received was to use it while you are awake and relaxed so you get used to it. Try wearing it watching tv or reading a book. it makes it easier to sleep with if you are more familiar with it.

Are you taking anything for the allergies? Some of those meds keep you from sleeping well... another issue might be that you are using the humidifier thinking it's a mandatory part of therapy (it's not) and if you're in a relatively humid location and don't necessarily need the humidifier, try lowering the setting or not using it altogether because it can cause congestion if not needed... you have to experiment to see what works for you in your local climate.
