Another vote for Costco.

I have tried sound amplifiers in the past and they flat out suck. I wear small behind the ear Widex Evoke passion hearing aids and I can't be happier. Not to mention I am beyond anal and went for 6 adjustments before I left my audiologist alone.

I would have gone to Costco but supposedly it is hit or miss with their fittings and getting in for adjustments is difficult. If that is incorrect then I'll go there for my next pair.

That can be true at any hearing professional. My absolute worst test was from somebody who teaches Audiologists! :(

With Costco, if you are not happy with your professional you are free to go to another branch for your free services and adjustments.

I am late to the discussion, but thought I would add my 2 cents.
I have a genetic, low frequency hear loss. This type of loss is much more difficult to fit than the typical high frequency loss - so I have been going to an audiologist I trust. I purchased new aids a bit over 1 yr. ago. Where I live in Central Wisconsin, my medicare advantage program is affiliated with Marshfield Clinic (a big provider in the area). With the benefit from my advantage plan + the discount that Marshfield Clinic was offering, I was able to purchase top of the line Signia aids for $500 each!
My pocket book was pleased and so am I. The aids have some bells and whistles that I don't use, but have found the microphone directional feature very nice for noisy situations such as a restaurant (I can customize the direction and width of the area to only amplify sounds to my front or a particular side and mute sounds from other directions. )
So - don't always assume that the cost of aids will be more by going to an audiologist.
Good luck!!

Yeah I wish... Empire BCBS (I live in the NYC area) doesn't cover anything short of the exam. I paid $3000 out of pocket for these.

Costco employs a mix of degreed Audiologists as well as certified Hearing Instrument Specialists.

Good point!

After my last hearing test the Costco professional spent time trying to adjust my hearing aids and even verified with their support that they were as good as they could get.
Only then did we talk about trying new aids. I tried 2 different sets of aids that visit before deciding on a purchase.

Costco did a great job of getting aids for my mom. Tested to see where she needed amplification, gave her a pair to try and told me how to help her check them out, like walking in front of her and talking, to her side, from behind, walking past the refrigeration units and in the quiet aisles (she was testing the ones that shift based on ambient sounds). Then, how to help her get used to hearing with them. They replaced a pair under warranty when she lost them.

They are the largest seller of hearing aids in the USA, so can sell less expensively than others.
