Should my friend be concerned?
Should my friend be concerned?
My friend recently started to use sleepy head and kind of new to this stuff. She has a Resmed Vauto machine. She sent me some of her data and wanted to know if there is any reason to be concerned. She didn't have any screenshots (although I asked her to send them). I noticed that her respiratory rate and minute vent is pretty low. she has a sleep doctor that she goes to to help adjust her pressures.
Also another concern is that her Spontaneous trigger % on the VAuto is only 39%. I have a VAuto as well and mine is always in the high 90 percentile. Is this even a concern?
But here are her respiratory and minute vent numbers.
Minute Vent.Amount of air displaced per minute (L/min)
W-Avg: 8.14
0.00
7.50. Med
12.50 95%
17.38. MAX
Resp. RateRate of breaths per minute (Breaths/min)
W-Avg: 10.53
0.00
10.00. Med
14.80 95%
17.60 MAX

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
Her numbers for Respiration rate and minute vent are well within norms. Norms vary widely between individuals for any number of reasons.
Short vs tall, male vs female, skinny vs fat, altitude, overall health, small bone structure vs big bone structure, sleep stage... etc.

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
Thanks Pugsy. What about the spontaneous trigger %?
Re: Should my friend be concerned?
I figured you would ask me that question but I don't know the answer to that one. Sorry.
Wait for Palerider to get up (he's a night owl) and let's see what his thoughts might be.
That has to do with something on the VAuto that I don't have on my machine and when I did have the bilevel I never messed the settings that could impact trigger. So no personal experience to draw from. Palerider has the personal experience.

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
As far as I know, there is no spontaneous trigger % on the VAuto, since it's a 100% spontaneous machine, there's no other kind of trigger on the VAuto.
What's the REF number on the back of the machine? (both of them).

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
The spontaneous trigger is likely to be relating to the tiControl settings a low % of spontaneous trigger could indicate to small a tiMax setting but the graphs might help

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
How's that work? The vauto is purely spontaneous, it's either triggered spontaneously, or it's not triggered at all. TiMax only comes in to play after the machine has been triggered.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 12:51 pmThe spontaneous trigger is likely to be relating to the tiControl settings a low % of spontaneous trigger could indicate to small a tiMax setting but the graphs might help

Re: Should my friend be concerned?
Thanks Palerider. I will ask my friend for this information and get back to you
Re: Should my friend be concerned?
I actually meant spontaneous Cycle percentage not trigger!
Re: Should my friend be concerned?
That's a whole different kettle of fish... and while he got the terms wrong Jas did spot what would need to be changed..
As I said in my PM reply to your PM, raise the TiMax number to something larger, 3 or 4... I don't know why ResMed has it defaulting to 2 (seconds)... anybody that likes taking long slow breaths will run into that TiMax limitation at 2... I did.
