BC/BS, Care Centix Machine replacment

Post by Pinhead » Mon Mar 25, 2019 9:51 am

A couple of weeks ago I started the replacement process for new machine, Mine is 5 years old it sustained some damage when it fell out of my car while driving 65 and has about 18,000 hours on it. Some Mornings the machine is louder then other days, but most days its fine.

Because of the louder noise a few days in a row I started the process to get a new machine. Made an appointment with my Dr. and he wrote a new script stating for the reason for replacement was that it was over 5 years old, high hours and starting to have issues related to fall.

I received a call back for I believe it was someone related to Care Centex stating that wasn't enough justification for BC to replace my machine. She stated the it had to be both over five years out and unrepairable. She suggested I take to the local devise store to have them look at it. He tested it and it was still working fine, and it does other then cosmetic issues.

It appears that unless the unit is broken and un repairable they will not replace it. Has anyone else this type of issues with these companies?

BTW: DMD is American Home Patient

This seems to be the norm now for most insurance companies and Medicare is the same way. They only replace machines when no longer economical to repair. If you have not done so, I would recommend you find a good, used machine to have as a back up. That way, when your machine stops and has to be sent off for evaluation, you will have a machine to use until yours is returned, or you go through all the hoops to get a new machine. My wife and I both have spare machines on hand. She got her machine two years ago and I got mine almost four years ago.

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.
