Nasal Pillow Problem

Post by rosmith911 » Thu Mar 21, 2019 4:42 am

I have been using nasal pillows for years (>10?), and using the AirFit 10 for probably 4-5 years, never any problem. Got the pillows because I have a beard, really never tried anything else. About 3 weeks ago I got a replacement AirFit 10. It seemed to have a little more tension in the straps...that is, it was tighter than previous masks. I tried adjusting the straps (moving the top strap to the top of my head) which helped some, but I have been having some pressure on my nasal septum on one side. This is getting worse to the point that now I am having some swelling here as well and increasing tenderness. I am using the medium pillows and never had this problem before, even with new equipment. To make matters worse, I am on vacation and won't be back home for 5 days. I plan to find a local DME store to see if they can help me out, but wanted thoughts about solutions:
1. Anything else I can try with my current equipment
2. Suggestions for new equipment: different nasal pillows vs. nasal mask.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Can you rig some arrangement that will stretch the straps out during the day? (Dresser drawer knobs? Soccer ball?) And if you find a DME, it might be worth trying large pillows, which might ride more on the surface of your sore nose. Good luck!

Tightly wrapping the dampened straps around a rolled up towel to dry might help.
