Couldn’t complete first night

Post by Filigree3 » Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:33 am

I have the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset and the Ascend full face mask. Machine said the mask seal was good. A few hours in, however, the mask started making knocking noises that I could feel moving on my face. When I went to take it off, I was greeted with a spray of water in my face. I took it on and off about 3 times, starting over each time but eventually getting back to the loud knocking noise. After I had reached compliance hours, I gave up on it for the night. Also, I found I was more congested in one nostril with the machine on. Any ideas?

You'll get other answers, but one suggestion is to locate the machine lower than your head by a few inches - water will run back to it and not you. Were you using a heated hose?

Various options for dealing with condensation in the hose or mask in this thread...posts number 2 and 3

You need to figure out if you are using a heated hose or not. If you are using a heated hose it may be all you need to do is increase the hose air temp.

And just because it doesn't feel "heated" doesn't mean it isn't. It all depends on the temperature selected and how cold your bedroom might be if it "feels" warm to the touch.

A heated hose is not [necessarily] something you feel, it's a hose that has a heating element within it to increase its temperature.

The problem your experiencing is likely rainout, condensed water within the tube.
Ways to stop/reduce:
  • Lower humidity setting
  • Increase hose temperature
  • Increase ambient room temperature
  • Lower CPAP machine to below level of head
Doing one or more should help but might reduce comfort, increasing the ambient humidity in bedroom with a room humidifier can help you reduce the humidity on your device.

That's the heated hose.
People expect it to feel a lot warmer than it actually does.
The highest temp you can use is 86 degrees Fah and that's cooler than body temp so if you grab it...it's going to feel more cool to the touch.

You might want to read the provider manual and figure out how to check the setup menu as to what settings you are actually using.

Do all the things already suggested.

Place the machine lower than your head.
Turn down the humidification one notch.
Raise the room temperature.
Make sure the hose temp is set to the max.
Do not overfill the water tank.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I took your advice and no knocking sounds, last night. Unfortunately, I have noticed some pimples popping up.
