New to CPAP
Hello
My name is Sharon and have just recently started using CPAP machine.
It has been a struggle at times. Sometimes i feel like i am suffocating on one side of my nose (right) and most mornings wake up with a dry yucky mouth. I have a humidifier attached to machine. So i don't understand the dry mouth. Also supplier didn't give me the CPAP that he wrote on the prescription. Do you think that matters ? I am not a very bushy person so have a hard time telling people that they didn't do something right. Thanks for listening Sharonanne [/b]

Hello, and welcome to the forum. There are several xPAP "vets" here to try and answer your questions. If you will take a moment to fill out your profile, then your chances of receiving good suggestions improves. This is because you will get answers from people who have the same equipment as you.
Off the top of my head, i would suggest that you are using a nasal mask like the Activa or a nasal pillow mask, like the ComfortLite 2, and as soon as you doze off your mouth drops open and all of your treatment air escapes through your mouth.
Do you have a way to check out that theory? Video tape? Audio tape? A partner?

Make sure the DME gave you what was prescribed. Another thing to be aware of:insurance being billed for a new machine and some DMEs are giving patients machines that have been previously used and returned for whatever reason. Make sure if your machine has a tracker to check the # hours it has been used.

Some people (like me!) just aren't compatible with nasal pillows or prongs, and I found a nasal mask to be much better to use, and more recently have in fact gone to a full face mask that seems the best of all, so don't feel 'stuck' with what they gave you even if it's 'popular' (or cheaper for them, etc.).
On the machine. I prefer the machine you have since it has cflex that can be used in auto mode. Also, Resmed has boosted it's internet pricing to discourage people from buying on line. Not a popular move here with people on this forum.
It is really up to you and what you want. If you truly have a Remstar Auto with Cflex as your profile now says you have a very good machine that a lot of people have trouble getting.
If you put the wrong machine in your profile and were given something else Remstar Plus or whatever then I reserve the right to change my opinion.
On the dry mouth. Sounds to me like mouth breathing (or mouth leaking is a better term to describe it).
Your nose should get used to the pillow soon. Make sure you are not wearing it too tightly. You may want to have a full face mask around for colds or excessive stuffiness in addition to the Comfort lite 2. Humidifier should help but too much humidity can make the stuffiness worse.
A lot of us who use nasal interfaces tape our mouths with gentle paper tape and some also use some form of chin strap. Doesn't have to be purchased, an ace bandage will do or any other stretchy material.
Some can do with nothing but the interface, some tape only, some chin strap only some, like me do both tape and chin strap, since it helps stabilize the interface and prevent leaks.
Try all these and see what works for you.
Check the machine and make sure it matches your profile. I say this just because it is unusual for someone to get an Auto Remstar from an DME without a fight. The other comment on new or used is good too. Should be new. (Hours when you plug in should show total blower hours, figure how much you have used it and it should be that total when you plug in.

Just to step in and show some love for a moment...
Please don't get the wrong impression as you are just starting out on a path to finally feeling better. The average DME company (The folks that have provided you with your equipment) are not out to "rip you off" or take advantage of you. In fact, as you can see they have provided you with some of the best equipment on the market.
They can be an invaluable partner in getting you the treatment you need and finally actually getting some sleep!
It takes some time to get used to all this equipment. For me it took about 2 weeks to really get settled. Then another couple weeks after that to have a good idea of what worked for me.
If after say 2 weeks or so you still have some dry mouth problems or your nose is too sore don't hesitate to contact your equipment provider and talk to them about trying different masks. They can be a great source of suggestions and information and many have lots of masks that you can try on. Make sure to try them on lying down too!
Good Luck -
