Do I need a CPAP Prescription? I have ResMed S9 already.

Not sure if I need a prescription. I have a barely used Res Med S9 (w/ humidifier), Phillips Mask (new) and Slimline hose (new). I am comfortable with it and Mask doesn't leak. About 10 years ago I had a prescription and used a CPAP. I think my pressure is about 14 but not sure. What do you think? Should I start using it or ............?

I don't understand your question.

You have a machine that you got some years ago...and apparently didn't use and now you wish to try cpap again...is that what you are asking?

If so...by all means use it. It's highly unlikely that someone sent a bolt of lightening down from the heavens to zap you and cure you from whatever caused you to need the cpap some 10 years ago.

Now if you want to reaffirm the need....just in case that bolt of lightening happened...then you need another sleep study done without cpap.

If you decide to try the machine again...which S9 model is it...there were about 15 or so and which model is extremely important.

Its a S9 Elite EPR with a heated Humidifier that my father gave me recently. I had an old machine that I used 10-12 years ago. No major changes were made EXCEPT I stopped sleeping on my back and started sleeping on my side stomach so I was cured - just like that! I was renting the machine so I gave it back. I now have developed sleep apnea again cause the symptoms are the same plus I have gained about 20 pounds. Having said all that I have not has a Sleep Study recently (only the one 10-12 years ago) but dont want one because I despised it (I hated the CPAP machine also). The machine and NEW mask and hose, I have seems better than the old stuff - thus I would like to try it and use the new equipment but not go to a Sleep MD or have a Sleep Study done.

Gotcha...I understand now.

Go get SleepyHead software
https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/
You are going to want to use it to evaluate whatever pressure you start out with.

Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for the S9 Elite (BTW EPR isn't part of the model name..it's just the name for the exhale relief)...all explained in the manual
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

Hard to know what to start the pressure at...but I suggest 10 cm as a starting point...gotta start somewhere and that's about the bell curve for what most people are using.

See here for some ideas on what you can see using SleepyHead
