Smell from Empty Reservoir

In the morning, if the reservoir of my ResMed is dry, there is usually a disturbing smell, which wakes me. Sometimes I develop a headache as well. I use a SoClean sanitizer daily and always fill the reservoir before the cleaning process. Then it’s usually after midnight when I go to bed again.
Is the smell common to ResMed? Is there any way to avoid it rather than refilling in the wee hours.
I usually sleep less than 6 hours

Probably leaks from your socrap causing you to use more water than it should.

The majority of people on this forum do not use the SoClean. If you do a search here you'll find a zillion threads about why it's not recommended.

To try to answer your actual question... it's not a smell that the ResMed machines have. Do you fill the water chamber to the top line? It's rare that it runs out of water, no matter your location, especially if you sleep less than 6 hours.

Some users have reported a burning plastic type if smell when running out of water in the tank. The tank heater plate continues to heat with or without water present.

As Lucy points out we need to know if you are using a full tank of water in 6 hours. If you are then I would be checking the socrap cleaner connections for leaks as Palerider says. You shouldn't be using a full tank of water in 6 hours unless you are in an extremely dry environment and require a lot of humidification.

To the OP:

Since you did not describe the odor in question, I am assuming that is a burning smell. You should fill the tank to the full line (and never more) every night.

Since you seem not to sleep an excessive number of hours, it should last the whole night. You might want to try setting the humidifier a notch lower and see if that helps (without causing a dryness issue).

Also, as was already suggested, check for leaks. Although the machine will compensate for most leaks, you will use more water (and more electricity) if you're leaking.
