Back pain?

Post by Laura353 » Sun Dec 30, 2018 9:40 am

Hi everyone! I’m going on about two weeks of using my new CPAP machine and have been waking up every morning with severe back pain. It’s kind of in my upper middle back. I didn’t have this before but I am having it every morning now. Could this be a CPAP related? I wake up with the early morning and can’t sleep because of the pain. But when I’m up for a little while and sitting up it goes away.

Is the pain made worse when you take in a deep breath?

I'm having similar issues the last couple weeks. I've read that it can be due to not moving while you're asleep (whereas pre-CPAP you may be tossing and turning all night, so your body isn't in the same position for long). For me, it seems like the longer I sleep, the worse it is. I have yet to find a solution.

I had pain in my ribs for the first few nights of therapy.
My brother who was also a cpap user reported the same.
It was less and less every day and passed completely within a week in both cases.

I think Biz was on the right track. Having back pain is not all that unusual. When proper cpap therapy occurs, a person will stay in the same position a long time, instead of tossin' and turning all night. It should last a week or two. If it doesn't go away, you may need to see a doctor. Most folks start looking into a better mattress once proper therapy kicks in. I realized my mattress was junk, so I went the TemperPedic route. Never looked back.
