Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
The seasons are changing and that means sinus-season for me.
I figured plain old Vick's Vapo-Rub might help. Smearing some on a napkin positioned adjacent the intake port sort of works. To help it out, I smeared some on a folded paper napkin, slid the napkin (laying flat along the bottom) inside a toilet tissue core and pointed that at the intake port, right up against it. It's sort of a Jethro Bodine engineered, "smellum" tunnel-ram to channel the intake airflow over the ointment. It works a treat!
The problem is the Vic's is not long lasting. It lasts long enough to get me to fall asleep, but loses it's "oomph" sometime later.
I'm hoping aromatherapy oils might last longer, but I'm not sure which kind to get. I've checked online and there are several options - essential oils like eucalyptus, tea-tree and some "cocktails" of various oils mixed together. Since I can't test-smell them over the internet, can anyone offer a recommendation that helps clear stuffy heads?
Thanks,
-JD

Re: Sinus Season! . . . Recommendations?
I know it's not the question you asked, but . . .
For treatment of seasonal allergies, recent guideline changes have moved intranasal corticosteroid sprays up to the top recommendation.

An OTC generic version of Flonase is very reasonably priced at Costco.Berkeley dudes wrote:Intranasal corticosteroids—formulated as prescription or over-the-counter nasal sprays—offer sustained relief that outperforms oral allergy medications like loratadine (Claritin), fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec) with fewer unpleasant side effects. -- http://www.berkeleywellness.com/self-ca ... are-better

Re: Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
Yes - I've had a recent allergy screen for the usual suspects in our area (blood test allergy screen with my physical) and it all came back negative. This is something I've dealt with since I was a child - whenever the seasons change each fall and spring, I get sinus issues and once that happens, it often turns to sinusitis, which in turn results in some flavor of URI. Over the years, I've been trained to wait til after day 12 or so and if it hasn't started easing up, I can usually go get a Rocefin shot (and they usually include an antibiotic rx) and that has me cleared up within a day or so.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 10:47 amHave you had a recent consultation with an ENT/Allergist?

Re: Sinus Season! . . . Recommendations?
just wanted to jump in here and thank you again for mentioning this generic equivalent. i had purchased this some time back, but just started using it full time this week when the flonase ran out.jnk... wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 8:55 amI know it's not the question you asked, but . . .

this stuff is very good! i find it even more effective for clearing out my bazoo than the flonase.

Re: Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
You are welcome.
I am glad I stumbled onto it. The savings from this one purchase is almost enough to cover the yearly Costco membership price. Just goes to show what the markup is on meds.

Re: Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
My doc Rx'd me a non-narcotic cough suppressant that Medicare does not cover.
It cost well under half as much at Costco as "elsewhere".
Benzonatate.

Re: Sinus Season! Aromatherapy Recommendations?
Has anyone tried the Sinus essential oils sold here https://www.cpap.com/productpage/cpap-a ... us-blaster
I’d like to know how does it “connect” to the CPAP machine. I would not pour the oil directly into the water reservoir. I see it comes with pads but where do the go? Thanks

It doesn't touch your cpap machine at all.higgledy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 8:03 amHas anyone tried the Sinus essential oils sold here https://www.cpap.com/productpage/cpap-a ... us-blaster

The little pad/disc slides into a slot on a little tray (the blue orange thingy you see at the above link) and you place that little tray next to the air intake of your cpap machine.
