My humidifier's not working!

Post by DianaKY » Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:45 pm

Help! I have a Philips-Respironics PR System One Series Machine. Each night I dutifully fill the water chamber for the humidifier, and each morning, the chamber is still full--the humidifier is not working! I have checked both the regular and clinician settings, and everything *seems* to be turned on correctly (humidifier set to 5, etc.). I just got it back from the repair center, and after paying $90, it STILL doesn't work? Can anyone tell me what might be wrong?

Maybe nothing - if the humidity in the room is high enough. If you live in a relatively humid area, you might just not need it and if you feel you do, I'm sorry can't help much, but maybe others will.

Thanks--I actually live in a really dry area, so I am waking up with a ton of sinus pain and dryness. Could it have anything to do with the clinician setting that automatically adjusts the humidity?

Have you tried turning the system one humidification system off and reverting back to Classic Mode...which uses more water and more heat?

+1 for using the Classic Mode.

By default it is probably set to use the "System One" mode which (supposedly) monitors the humidity of the room to determine whether or not added humidity is necessary. Personally, I found the "System One" mode to be worthless.

When you use the patient menu to select the humidifier you can toggle between "O" and "C", where "O" = "System One" mode; and "C" = "Classic" mode. If you change it to the Classic mode the warming plate under the humidifier will turn on and heat the water to provide added humidity... period. It does not try to second-guess whether or not the added humidity is necessary.

A word of caution... once you get the humidity cranked-up you might experience something called "rain out". That is caused when the warmed air, while traveling through the 6 foot tube, cools down and causes condensation. A hose cover will help to avoid that happening.

If the machine does indeed monitor the relative humidity of the room, that would be a nice feature to record and display also. The data is being collected it would not be a major process to record/display.

Hi my humidifier chamber activates via pressure plate under the water chamber. When you push down the lid it presses the chamber down to operate a switch under the plate. My problem (now my second brand new machine) is that although the blue indicator light comes on the water was not heating up. I removed the water chamber switched the machine on and pressed the pressure plate down with my fingers. Sure enough it soon got hot enough for me remove my finger VERY quickly. However the switch was not operating with the chamber itself. I assumed that there was not enough pressure bring put on the plate for it to operate correctly. As a temporary measure I have slipped a thin washer onto the base plate and carefully inserted the water chamber in such a manner as not to push it backwards. I closed the lid and low and behold it works correctly maintaining a steady 30°C. I'm in the UK and get my machine provided free but it would seem these things aren't the best of quality judging by the number complaints made by the CPAP Clinic to their supplier.

There is a hygrometer in the humidifiers.
