New to these boards. Is there any problem having a glass or two of wine and using your CPAP an hour or so later.
Thanks
Jack

Re: CPAP and Alcohol
A glass-probably OK.
Or two, etc.--proportionately less so.
Alcohol is a CNS depressant; and your breathing may not be so hot already.

Re: CPAP and Alcohol
Usual recommendations for sleep hygiene are that alcohol not be consumed during the hours immediately preceding sleep, since that messes up REM-stage sleep hours later toward morning. OSA complicates things further in that any sedative can make apneas more likely to occur and can make them last longer. For severe-OSA people, the combination of OSA and sedation can be life-threatening, depending on the strength/amount of the sedation. That said, the important thing for anyone with moderate-to-severe OSA is to use the CPAP any time one is going to sleep, whether one has had alcohol or not.jwoceanside wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:01 pmNew to these boards. i've come to find out that red wine is a no-no for me. it's causing fragmented sleep. i've managed to reduce my intake to one glass four hours before bedtime.jwoceanside wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:01 pmNew to these boards. this alone has improved (but not eliminated) the fragmented sleep.

Not a big fan of red wine, but I will never turn down a good bourbon or Irish whiskey. Enough of either one and I don't care if I sleep well, or not.
