Newbie, three days in

Post by SleeplessInRockville » Sun Dec 23, 2018 2:03 pm

I’ve struggled with daytime fatigue for years and finally got diagnosed with moderate apnea. I received my machine on Thurs and have been struggIing since then. I KNOW it takes time to get used to the gear but I’m impatient to “get on with it”.

I’ve got a Phillips Dream machine using A10 nasal pillow and actually did my best on 1st night although developed horrible pain at edges of nose. Thank goodness I found this site and the suggestion of using lanolin seems to have corrected it. 2nd night something went wrong with the humidifier valve and after 2hrs of trying to get it to stop making noise when inhaling, I gave up. Luckily, I managed to figure out the issue and last night it was back to being silent.

I am now having issues swallowing air and the use of a wedge pillow (which I luckily already had) doesn’t help. I’m burping which makes me open my mouth, thus the bi-pap then increases the air which makes me gasp and start all over with swallowing air. I also had several incidents of painful “vomit burps”. The today’s morning readout says the mask fit was 99pct, min 6 max 12 pressure with an AHI of 23.4 and I only managed 4hr41min (1st night I managed 8+) before I couldn’t take it any longer and took it off.

Any suggestions regarding how to eliminate the burping so that I can breath “normal” and get some sleep? Would using gas ex preemptively help the situation? I don’t think I have GERD but would taking OTC meds for it help? What about suggestions regarding a pillow?

THANK YOU!

Welcome to the forum.

What are your pressure settings?

Search the forum foe “aerophagia”.....common complaint and there may be some things you can tweak in your settings that might help.
