Was just having a PM conversation with someone who struggles as I have with waking up and finding their mask off. For the first several months this would happen to me, as I was such a zombie, but as I've begun to feel better, my ability to wake up enough to control that has greatly improved (no, not perfect yet). But besides the leak alarm (if you're like me you could just turn it off and never wake up), I thought of something simple that might be helpful. If one's headgear touches skin anywhere, maybe put a bandaid across a strap - just enough of something to cause a little pain when removed. I'm thinking a few times of that and one would be conditioned to not snatch off the mask. Just wouldn't let the bandaid touch the hose for fear of damage.
Just a thought in case it could help someone.

Kathy, WHAT AN EXCELLENT IDEA!
TOO EASY! I wonder how many of us are wondering: "Now why didn't I think of that?"
Thanks - a little late for me, but a great one for others - sure would have helped me "in the beginning (which lasted for months)"
Why don't you ADD that to the "collective wisdom"? What a great help. Thanks!
