IQ and MiniMe Nasal Masks by SleepNet ???

Post by Slinky » Tue Nov 14, 2006 9:37 pm

Has anyone tried the IQ nasal mask made by SleepNet? What did or didn't you like about it?

SleepNet also makes a MiniMe Nasal mask. Has anyone tried one of these? Likes and dislikes.

What masks have you used that you liked? Which mask are you using now?

I've tried the Breeze, Swift and ComfortLite 2 nasal pillows and much prefer the CL2. But on occasion the nostrils can get a bit sensitive and I'd like to have an alternative nasal mask instead of the pillows. I've tried the F&P HC 407 nasal mask but never could get a fit with acceptable leakage.

you should try the SomnoTech Soyala, I love it, seals with very little strap pressure is silent as it relates to noise.

It has been so long since anyone asked about the IQ and Mini. At one time people liked the Mini, but the IQ never went over very well because of leaks.

Examine the gel cushion on the IQ and you will see it doesn't have any membrane flap to seal against the face, this means when cpap pressure is applied to that rounded gel surface it will want to "lift" the mask away from the face leading to excessive leaks. If you compare the IQ to the ComfortGel you will see it has that outter membrane silicone flap to help make the seal.

Thank you, SnoreDog. I was intrigued by the "wire" feature inside the cushion that allows one to fit the nose as the DME's RT said I'd probably never be able to find a nasal mask small & narrow enough at the top to avoid leaks around the eyes.

I meant to stop at the DME's yesterday to see if it was possible to get the nasal mask for the CL2. They gave me the 3 sizes of pillows but not the seals or the nasal mask. But I was so tired and cranky I just came home after my unsatisfactory appointment w/my sleep pulmo. It wasn't totally his fault, I was tired, I was cranky, I was difficult. Diplomacy isn't my forte when I feel this rotten.

For the time being I'm gonna just switch from the PAP to my 2L 02 when I wake up to go the bathroom and finish out the night w/the 02 until I can get rested again.

IQ actually works for me. I use it with petite holeycap head gear. If a leak springs up, a quick tweak of the bendable wire part or adjustment of the velcro stap usually fixes it. I hardly even wake fully up.

I like it because the gel never hurts, I don't have to rachet the straps down tight, a little loose is better, I use it as a two strap so no obstructed vision, I can read (in my case involves reading glasses) It can be used with hose running overhead too.

I have to be absolutely sure to get the oils off my face right befire bed and I wipe off the gel surface with damp cloth so its still a trifle damp when I put it on, this seems to make a better seal. If I don't do that there can be leakage.

I know many here have not had good luck with IQ, but if just seems to fit me.

I haven't tried very many other nasal masks because most have that forehead piece and I just can't stand that. I did try Aura(has new name now...), nasalaire2, and MiniMe. the prong/pillow thing I couldnot get used to, and MiniMe, while really adorable had a little tickly flap that flapped when the machine was on and drove me nuts , also it made the tip of my nose So COLD

But as always, this is a VERY personal thing. Everyone's needs in masks can be so different.

Hope you find your perfect (or as near as possible ) fit.

Thanks, 3Isles. I was checking them out at cpap.com and was surprised that the IQ and MiniMe both run more expensive than the CL2!!!

I'm going to see what my local DME might have on hand. They do have the medium and the small nasal cushion for the CL2 and will give them to me "at no charge" (seeing as how they didn't give them or the seals to me when they sold me the CL2 - tho they did give me all 3 sizes of the nasal pillows, darn right they better not charge me!).

If the CL2 nasal cushion doesn't work then I'll have to give some thought to spending some of my own money for a nasal mask that does so that I can switch off from the CL2 pillows on the occasional times that my snozz does get a bit tender.

I have a rather large nose but the IQ works for me, it took several nights to get it adjusted right. My biggest problem was tickling of my nose, but I got used to it and now use the IQ as my travel mask and for afternoon naps. I have the holeycap and really like the adjustment variations that are possible with it.

Tried the SleepNet Phantom years ago and could never get satisfaction.

My latest interface is the Twilight NP (AEIOMed Headrest). Put it on, made preliminary adjustments, got into bed had to make one more adjustment and BAM woke up the next morning. The only thing I don't like is that the exhaust ports are located about 6 inches from your nose. Seems to me that we would be better off dumping the exhaled/fresh-air mixture as soon as possible, instead of extending the bronchial-nasal system.

Thank you, too, NosBig. Boy, you must be a veteran! A real pro at this PAP bit w/all the equipment you've accumulated! As I mentioned earlier, I'm gonna try the CL2 nasal cushion as an alternate to the pillows when needed to see how that works before spending my hard to come by money. I just spent a bundle on the software, etc. for the Elite so gotta take it cool for a while on spending.
