Different requirements by different companies. My current DME requires me to call them to do any ordering. They don't call or do auto-shipment. In one of the Resmed manuals, they say that the chamber should last 2.5 years. I'm still using my original tank (3+ years). I recommend having at least one if not two backup chambers. They can unexpectedly crack or break.mottzzz wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 1:00 pmWith a previous company, I believe a new water chamber was always included with my new supplies. I'm with a new company now and they didn't send me a water chamber. They also sent me the wrong parts, so I had to call and ask them to send me the correct stuff. But they also said that they only send a new water chamber when it's requested. Do you automatically get a new water chamber or do you have to request one?
My bro had the same water chamber in his first Respironics bipap for 10 years. It was only recently replaced because a plastic piece went missing (it's his backup machine). For his current machine, his chamber was fine the first 2 years. Then he ended up in rehab at a nursing home - it cracked and leaked. He was in a nursing home again about a year later - again, cracked and leaked. Other people aren't as careful with your stuff as you are. Hence the recommendation for 2 backups.
LSAT, I mostly agree with your sentiments, but some folks have posted on here that they were dropped by their DME when they didn't order anything and that can result in a lot of time and money wasted getting new scripts and paperwork. If you have all the supplies you need, just tell your DME that you will probably just be ordering once per year now to make clear that you are retaining their services. My bro's Medicare and supplemental pay 100% so I'd rather he got something extra than have to go through all the approvals again because I'm the one who has to do it.
