How narrow an Autoset range is too narrow?

Post by old dude » Sun Aug 12, 2018 1:51 pm

I'm experimenting with pressures on my new Airsense 10 Autoset, and it's coming down to this: I can handle a minimum pressure of 11 cmH2O very comfortably and it covers most of my events. My 95% pressure averages around 12 cm or less and my median pressure is 10.5-ish. But about the maximum I can handle without leaks causing sleep disturbance is around 12.6 or so; maybe a little more for a short time if necessary. So I'm thinking I'll wind up with settings around 11cm min--->13 cm max.

Is a 2 cm spread almost not worth using an APAP instead of a straight CPAP? It seems to work for me but I'm wondering if this is putting too fine a point on things?

My doctor said he wanted me to set my APAP at 13-15 cm H20.

It would be better for you to get mask liners so the leaks wouldn't bother you, and not restrict the top end of the machine.

If it was me I'd set the top end a 20, the machine is only going to go as high as it needs to go. Just because it's set at 20 doen't mean it's going to go there all the time. Why restrict your top end.

If your AHI is reasonable, it might be worth a little higher AHI to sleep better. Try it...what have you got to lose? I would definitely try a mask liner too.

I have mine set foe EPAP of 17 - 20 and PS of 4 cm. I very seldom go over 18. My AHI stays under 1 and flow limits seldom go above .30. I found flow limits were driving my pressure higher, so I adjusted my pressure to control my flow limits.

The narrowest setting is a fixed CPAP pressure and that works well for many people. So I don't think there's such thing as "too narrow" a range if it's working for you.
