Curiosity - perhaps OT: why no response star if OP has avatar?

Post by JimW159 » Fri Aug 10, 2018 2:23 am

I don't know the actual term for the star that appears in the list when one responds to a post - my question is why does the star appear ONLY if the box has a generic mark indicating traffic etc.
I often scroll through posts and check those posts I have responded to before. If the OP has a personal avatar no star appears. No great importance, just late night curiosity.

I never knew what the star meant. I had to go look at a couple of posts to check it out.

There's a red page icon on posts that have unread replies, clicking that takes you to the first unread pist in the thread.

But that's a totally different function. It doesn't tell you if it is a thread to which you had responded and might particularly want to follow if your time on the board is limited. I, too, wish there was the star icon on the messages by people who have custom avatars.

Try this:

Once you click on the "your posts" link, it will show you the threads that you've posted in, and will have the "red star/background" indicating new, unread posts - avatar or not.

It seems this process exposes a different curiosity: in this view any "personal avatar" each thread's OP may have is replaced by a generic "thread status" icon indicating traffic status etc., including the "response star" referenced in the original thread starter. Oh, well, where is the mind to go late at night when one is hoping to get to sleep? OTOH, this is much earlier in the night than many of my "how come" explorations.
