Rainout & So Tired

Post by pawneeranger » Mon Jul 23, 2018 11:43 am

Hi -

I'm a pretty new user and I'm having some issues with rainout and relapse of tiredness. I got my machine in March of this year and immediately felt a lot better. Lately I've been feeling more and more tired, though. For at least a month or so the exhaustion seems like it's building again. My readouts on dream mapper haven't changed, though - AHI is still well below 3 and the pressure ( i have an auto) isn't changing.

I've also noticed that as the weather started getting warmer I started getting rainout. I'm not sure if the two are related; I wasn't paying close enough attention to when the exhaustion started building again vs. when i noticed the rainout. Is it possible the two are related?

Do you have any ideas on how to address the rainout, regardless? I bought a snuggle skin for my hose and saw no improvement; turned my humidity down from 3 to 2 with no improvement and then last night turned the temp down to 2 as well. Am I adjusting the heat and humidity incorrectly? Any ideas would be very appreciated! I am very tired.

Thanks!

Could you please update your signature by editing your profile to include your equipment? Also, if not already done, use the SleepHead software to import data from the machine by using an SD Card and post the graphs here for the experienced folk to take a look. Those graphs convey a lot of things.

Just a hypothesis about you feeling tired although your AHI is below 3: Could it be possible that you waking up because of the rainout? I mean, you are still breathing so the machine won't flag any event but you are awake because of the rainout. Maybe try turning off the humidifier all together for a night and see if it makes a difference?

If nothing else, locate your machine at a lower level to yourself (head) so water will run down back to the machine and not to you.

Thanks! I will try both of those ideas tonight and see if they help.

I can't figure out how to post a screenshot of the sleepyhead results, but here's a link to my screenshot on imgur! https://imgur.com/a/YOtynQA

If you have the heated hose and you turn it down to 2..that's the wrong way to go to prevent rain out. You need to increase the hose air temp not decrease it.
If you don't have a heated hose...get one.
See this thread posts #2 and 3 for various options to battle condensation.

I agree with the prior suggestions for rainout. That is, put the unit lower than your head and use a heated hose (if you're not doing so already). You need to get the heated for for a Dream Station, as that's the only one that will work.

If none of that works, you can (also) lower the humidity setting.

Also, make sure that the hose is not in the direct path of your air-conditioner.

Rainout woke me up and was annoying as heck if nothing else. I bought a fleece insulated hose cover off of eBay for 8$ and haven’t had an issue since.

I turned off the humidity the last two nights and it seemed to get rid of the rainout but i'm still very tired. I also notice that per my pressure charts in sleepyhead my machine seems to spend a lot of time spiking up and then returning to the min setting for most of the night. Is this anything I should be concerned about?

Here are my last four nights in sleepyhead:

Those spikey saw toothed looking increases in the pressure is just the machine's test pressure probes doing their normal thing.
Nothing to be concerned about.

See this old thread for more discussion and examples.

It could be that the up and down is bothering you. It is also possible that you don't feel comfortable at the pressure of 5. That is too low for many people.

You might try raising the minimum to 6 and and see if it improves a little.
