Surplus CPAP Blowers for Experimenters (Geek Alert)

Post by Slartybartfast » Sun Jul 22, 2018 1:56 pm

For the geeks/'lectronic wonks amoung you, I just came across this https://www.surpluscenter.com/Electrica ... 6-1450.axd. Resmed blower unit from CPAP machines. No wiring diagrams available, but it's a stepper motor, so likely 4 of the 8 wires should be easy to figure out. What the remaining 4 wires are for isn't clear, but likely are for pressure control/feedback, etc. The die-cast zinc (aloominiminum?) case clearly suppresses noise/vibration. I'm sort of tempted . . .

I'd be willing to bet that it's not a stepper, rather a three phase motor, or "brushless dc motor" as they're calling them these days. the other wires are probably position sense, or who knows, something else.

The new "easy breathe" motors are way different.. i wonder what that one came out of.
