Cant find a good mask

Post by jerseyboy1983 » Fri Jun 29, 2018 10:03 pm

Hi everyone. I'm new to the CPAP life. I have had very little success so far with it. Mainly because I can't find a good mask. I have purchased 6 masks so far and they all do the same thing. The leak like crazy.

I order the largest full face mask every time and it stil leaks around my nose and mouth. I guess you can say I have a large face.

The mask just barely seals around my nose and mouth. So if I even slightly open my mouth, it leaks. And I have to have a full face because I'm a mouth breather. The chin strap also did not help completely.

Please help! I need sleep and I cant find a full face mask big enough for my face. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Check out my full-face mask (click on the line in my signature). Maybe you need larger headgear?

- Go to our host: cpap.com.
- look at the Phillips Respironics Fitlife Total Face mask - looks like a fireman's mask.
- if it looks appealing and you wanna try it out - pm me your physical address, and I'll mail you a used one to try out.

I'm thinking after trying out so many masks, you need to keep trying, but I know that it can be expensive.

I am new and feel your pain even though I am blessed with excellent insurance!! In each of those mask boxes should be a fit card...have you tried any? My DME kept insisting I was an extra small (Moi???!!) and they were VERY wrong...I needed a medium when they actually used a measuring card!!! When sitting or standing I have full chubby cheeks, a round head, and not much of a chin (even with an implant!!) and elder slack facial tissue that is very mobile when it is less than desirable when I lie down!! Why DO they fit us sitting and/or standing??
I had the same problem with my mouth coming out of the bottom of most masks until I got the AirTouch F20 (for her) and the memory foam seal fixed all leaks that were bothersome even without making the mask so tight it bit me!!
I wish you the best and please don't fixate on your "numbers" until you are OK with your facial device!!
Another poster nudged me towards a hybrid and that might be something for you to consider also.
Good luck, I am going to follow your progress so do not give up!!

As you have found, the search for the right mask can be very elusive and expensive. Check eBay for masks. I have managed to purchase masks there at reduced prices. People are not supposed to sell complete masks there, but quite often I have seen complete masks available. They are some times listed as a mask frame, but if you look at the picture, it is a complete mask. I have also gotten masks from members of this forum that sell masks they have purchased and could not use. Our forum hosts offer return insurance on their masks at low or no cost. I have purchased masks from them for trial and returned them when they did not work out for me.
