Loosing weight

Post by youngmark050 » Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:45 am

I have recently lost 35 pounds - about 15% of my body weight - any reason I should be experiencing more interuptions at night - was at 1-2 per night and now i'm 7-10?

Check mask leaks. Could be your mask no longer fits your smaller face.

Some people end up needing more pressure when they lose weight.

Losing weight is great, but it's no guarantee that your apnea will improve.

Hi Youngmark,

What machine are you using and do you know if the increase in AHI is in hypopnea, obstructive or central events?

Please fill out your equipment profile, and also provide details about your pressure range etc.

Do you use Sleepyhead? This is a program that many of us use to monitor our treatment. It provides detailed info that helps us tailor XPAP treatment to our unique needs and changing circumstances, like weight gain or loss for example that can impact treatment.

FWIW, I lost about the same amount of weight (15% of body weight) approx. 2 1/2 years ago after being first diagnosed to see if weight loss would reduce my OSA, and frankly after using my CPAP during the weight loss, I decided I'd be a CPAPer for life as I felt so, so much better than before. :)

Please tell us more info so that we can help you get better AHI numbers (if in fact by interruptions you are referring to AHI numbers which I am assuming and not just waking up at night)
