Just diagnosed with Sleep Apnea..Looking for some advice/wisdom
Good Morning,
I was officially diagnosed with mild sleep apnea last week. I initially had an in-home study, and than last week I did my over-night study in the hospital. For the past few years I have been suffering from fatigue, crazy vivid dreams, waking up not feeling refreshed, and just general exhaustion.
When I went in for my test at the hospital, they linked me up to a million cables, and also made me wear a CPAP. I slept from about 11pm till 5 am, and when I woke up I felt INCREDIBLE. I had energy, my mind was so clear, and I dint need to drink any caffeine.
The Dr. called me a few days later to tell me that I indeed had sleep apnea. When I slept on my side, I had 5 episodes per hour, and when i slept on my back, I had about 10 per hour. He mentioned that my oxygen level would drop till about 82%.
My question to you guys: Could such a mild case of sleep apnea cause me to feel so crappy all of these years? I am very excited that the one night on the CPAP made me feel so good, I just hope it wasnt a case of the "placebo effect."
I pick up my CPAP tonight. I will keep everyone in the loop with how I am feeling.
Thanks! -Ricky

Make sure that the CPAP you are given is fully data capable.....ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset or Respironics Dreamstation Auto.

Yes. Very important.
Do you know which machine and which machine settings were prescribed, and do you have a copy of the prescription? You should.
5 or 10 events per hour? That's 35 to 70 events per 7-hour night. If you were awakened 35 times by trains every night, how do you think you would feel?
Not to mention,

The "feel good" effect of the first night of CPAP was obviously not "placebo." In my case it was the second morning (the first morning just felt weird).
Consider yourself one of the fortunate ones. The relief was so instantaneous that even skipping one night (or even napping without it) was immediately not an option.
Note the the clinical measures of severity do not necessarily correlate with how you feel.
When you get your equipment, please fill in the profile.
Yes, make sure you get a data capable automatic as a prior poster suggested (the brands mentioned are data capable).

I just picked up my machine. It’s the Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP

Great! Please fill in the rest of your profile to state the mask and the humidifier (even though there's only one kind you could be using). Also, it's good to note your pressure and whether you're using a heated hose in your settings.
