Insomnia cured? Nasal Aire II comments and questions.
I love the sleep I am getting with the Nasal Aire II.
I said in several post that I was going to treat the OSA and then work on the Insomnia. (The Swift did not give the same results, because I was awake and adjusting it often. The Comfort Curve kept leaking as well.)
Pre CPAP, I was waking up constantly. With the NA II, I go to bed and do not wake up until 4:30 (5:30 pre time change and my usual wake up time.)
Well, I do not think I have insomnia anymore. It has been a week with the Nasal Aire II. I did have to use the Swift twice because of sores in my nares, (which really drove home the fact of how much better sleep I am getting with the NA II.) I hope my skin will heal and this is not an allergic thing.
Questions
Do you always lubricate the cannulas? I can't use it without KY Jelly, or else it is instant pain on the inside of the nares.
How do you know what the right size is? This size I am using, I need to kind of bend the cannulas to get them in. I find if they dry during the night they come out, with the KY Jelly they fell out sooner, I tried some Blistik and they stayed in until I woke up this morning. I am wondering if the size I am using is to big. I am seeing the DME next week, I will buy a smaller size to try out. On the sizing start the smaller size makes no contact with my nares because it is much smaller.
Comments:
I have a small face. Any other small faces having trouble finding an interface, especially someone claustrophobic like myself, should give the Nasal Aire II a try.
I use the head gear and pass the tubing through the loop that is attached to the head gear, not the lower loop. (Would drop to low using the lower loop.) I use the strap behind the neck. I removed the thing they call the bolo, which is used to attach the tubes in the front. I feel like I am being chocked with it on, even with it off, I need to calm myself. I wish the tubes were just a few inches longer, so there would be more space.
I am a side sleeper. I go on my back and my tummy. Tummy is not to good with the NA II. The exhaust will make to much noise.
The NA II makes noise, but not louder then the Swift. It is a different noise.
The experience with the Nasal Aire II has not been totally pain free for my nostrils. There is a bump or something on the inside of one of the nostrils. Luckly, I was able to get a last minute appointment with the ENT, I see for an ear problem. Hopefully he does not say I am wasting his time, when I ask him what that sore thing is in my nose.
Edit:
Forgot to say I was surprised at how soft it got after one washing. I use the Jegens clear gentle soap. I hope the nasal thing lasts.
Edit:
I am using the Meduim Plus. I have a nose to say the least.
On the sizing star: smaller size goes in and easily, the larger size does not go in, the size I have goes in by wiggling.
Thank you.

Hi ready2sleep.
Where the sizes not right? or other issues that kept it from working for you.
Did you use a sizing star to figure out what size you needed?
I have read somewhere that the original Nasal Aire, has different sizing, so someone that fell between sizes may be able to find a size that fits for them.

There was a mess up, so no doctor's appointment, need to wait until next week.
I bought some lanolin, for the inside of my nose. This thing is gooy, so I hope it will not dry up like the KY jelly, may even be a good lubricant for the NA II. I do not know if it will help the sore thing in my nose, but hopefully it will help with any discomfort. If the sore is worse tomorrow, I will dab some neosporin on it tomorrow.

I use the NA II, in fact I am on my second one.
I have eight masks, NA II being my first one, and hopefully the last one. The rest are resting in the drawer. I never did find one I liked as well.
I would say it is only too big if it won't go in your nose. Anything less in size will leak.
I found rubbing some Oraljel (baby teething stuff) numbs up your nose enough to get to sleep. I think it took a week or so to get real comfortable.
If your nose gets too sore, trade off for a day or two and then go back.
I just use the back piece of my head gear, and I do use the bolo as it keeps it tight on my head. I also am a side sleeper, and I roll from left to stomach to right and over again. I have read of many who don't use anypart of the head gear, just lay it around your ears and all is good.
I wish you luck and hope that you continue to use this fine mask.

Hello MartiniLover,
I love the NA II as much as you. It is only the 3rd one I tried, but what a difference in the non interupted sleep.
Very intresting about the oralgel, I would not use it, since the pain I am expereincing is from sores, which I do not want to make worse.
I have had the NA II about 10 days, I hope the sores are not an allergic reaction. I do know that I did not wash the tubing and my ears where red hot after a couple hours worth of a nap. (I think)
UPDATE: Saturday, I bought some Neosporin compete. I asked pharmacist (did not realise there is petrolatum in it.) At nap time, I could not use the NA II, too painful so I used the Swift. At night time, (after using the Neosporin complete all day, I put some lanolin on the cannulas, all the way down not just at the tip, since this is were they make contact with the sores, (especially the one nostral with the bump in it). I was able to sleep for about 5 hours straight, then slept for about 2 mores hours.
MartiniLover I also tried using the NA II without the headgear, but I find that with the headgear on it stays in place better.
Putting on the NA II is not as easy as putting on the Swift that is so easy, but the few exta minutes is well worth the sleep I am getting.
Edit: Also: The Nasal Aire II is so quiet, last night my husband asked if it was on, (I guess I was breathing normally). I could not hear it, I was laying on my back for a few minutes. I had to put my hand in front of the exhaust to hear any noise. When I lay down on my side there is some swoshing sound. I think that noise is even louder because of the snuggle cover, but it is not that loud for me.

I wore the Nasalaire II in the sleep lab with a chin strap. It was soooo comfortable!! I couldn't believe how much better it felt than the swift but the swift is easier to put on the first time. I have tried so many masks. I would wear the Nasalaire II if I didnt mouth breath. I just hate taping my mouth. Good luck, enjoy!

I still have the problem of mouth breathing from time to time.
I did buy a "good" chin strap and used it for a while. It kind of trained myself to keep it shut. Once in a while I waken to the dry mouth and realize what is going on.
