sleep apnia with hear problems???

Post by vistor » Fri Nov 03, 2006 9:30 pm

My son has just told me that he is being released from the military because he has sleep apnea however it affects his hearing. From what I understand he looses almost 95% of his hearing. I know that he does snore sometime but not alit. My question is...... Can anyone explain this problem to me and is there a name for his problem that I may look up and read about it?? It is very upsetting to see him loose a good future? Thank You, An Unset Mom

In all the research I've done on sleep apnea I cannot recall any mention of it causing hearing problems. However, it affects so many aspects of health that I really wouldn't be too surprised if it did.

I have heard that the CPAP therapy does occasionally cause painful pressure in the ear canals, but that it usually goes away as the patient becomes accustomed to the therapy. Sorry, I know this isn't much help. If you do an internet search of "sleep apnea" it should bring up some interesting information. Good luck.
