silly question re: my humidifier tank

Post by zonker » Tue May 29, 2018 5:54 pm

i've read here before about some humidifier tanks being dishwasher safe.

in the Phillips Respironics System One Humidifier user manual, on page 10, i read-

"Hand washing can be preformed daily. Dishwashing can be performed once a week."

now, i'm a cautious type. and i want confirmation on this. it DOESN'T say dishwasher safe.

but is that what the manual writers mean?

i haven't put it in the dishwasher yet.
:?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

"some" *RESMED* humidifier tanks are marketed as dishwasher safe.

That' 'some' only applies to Resmed.

Respironics System One Humidifier manual does state a top shelf dishwasher procedure but I have never tried placing mine in the dishwasher. I would think it would decrease the life of the tub. Maybe that's what they base their replacement schedule on.

interesting. and you may jolly well be right about the replacement schedule!

but i wonder, given what palerider says about resmed....are the two different humidifier tanks constructed from different types of plastic??

I don't see Oky saying that Respironics sells more than one type of humidifier tank.

For what it's worth, you may never need to wash it that thououghly. I recommend distilled water, and I simply transfer left over water into a glass jar during the day and let the humidifier tank dry. Over night the jar dries. Once every gallon of water I dump whatever little bit is left over before starting the new gallon. The tank stays clean as new.

I agree...In the 3 years I have been using this particular tank, I have "washed" it 4-5 times with dishwashing detergent. Otherwise I use distilled water and top it off ever 3rd night. It's as clear as the day I started using it.

I recommend distilled water,
Are you aware that in the rest of the world, manuals just say "use water"... not "use distilled water"

I was surprised in a ResMed Airsense 10 humidair user guide I found it said this.
Recommended water type (France only)
The following water types are recommended for use in the humidifier: 
Boiled tap water, cooled to room temperature 
Distilled water 
Bottled water (with a low mineral content).
Note: Do not use non-sterile demineralised water for domestic use.

Not sure why it stated France only.

Probably as in France the tap water may not be fit to drink without boiling.
