Everest CPAP (no longer made)

Post by D.H. » Sat May 19, 2018 9:03 am

I used to own one of these. I would not recommend this one now, as it is obsolete. However, there were many advanced design features that should be included in today's machines.

This machine had "stackable" design. In addition to the base machine, you could add or omit a humidifier, and a battery backup unit. They did not offer a heated hose or any data collection (besides motor hours). However, the basic concept should allow for these things to exist as separate components that can be included or not and allow all the pieces to assemble neatly regardless of which components are included or omitted.

Note that the company went out of business after a fire destroyed their factory in China.

Note below (top to bottom): The CPAP, the heated humidifier component and water tank, and the battery backup unit.

The humidifier design of the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP is similar. No stackable battery backup though. The IntelliPAP does accept standard 12V in barrel plug so it's easy to use any 12V source.

The cool thing is that there are TWO power jacks in the Intellipap.
one for house current, and one for 12VDC.
Mine came with a 5-year warranty, too.
Too bad a certain other company will/can not do this.

If I remember correctly the Intellipap automatically switches from AC to 12V when AC fails?

No idea.
But at that price, I doubt there would be a UPS integrated into the machine.
You would likely use EITHER one jack or the other, not both.
In case of a power outage, I would have to switch cords to connect the battery.
Or use an external uninterruptible power supply--
If one can afford one with the necessary output to run the cpap.
The bullfrog has a UPS for his laptop, but it has nowhere near enough output to run a cpap.

Although this particular one is vertically stack-able, I did not mean to imply that it's in any way intrinsically better than horizontal stack-ability.

This machine was not expensive, it went for more or less what comparable machines went for. Perhaps it was $100 more for the battery. The beauty of that is that if you insurance refused to cover the battery, you could get the rest of the components through your insurance and get the battery out-of-pocket.

What was the last year it was made?
Inflation may account for some of the difference.
Of course, a price comparison between Resmed batteries and
those made by a third party for cpap.com would indicate "other" factors.
Loki has determined some amazingly affordable power solutions.

I meant that the price was comparable to similar machines available at that time!

The company went out of business in 2010. See below.

From this memo, it was not clear that they didn't intend to start making an "Everest 4" CPAP at some point. However, they never started up operations again. To the best of my knowledge they filled orders from existing inventories and offered whatever support they could until they closed their doors about a year later.
