exhaling issue

Post by gabagoo » Mon Apr 09, 2018 3:04 pm

I can't really describe this very well, but I am in my first month and have a loner unit. I have switched masks twice but have encountered the same issue. At first I thought it was coming from me, but with repeated moving of the mask it seems to go away. I can only describe it as sometimes while exhaling it feels like the nose piece or something somewhere in the unit stops air flow for a split second stopping me from exhaling. I find it pretty disturbing and I think it wakes me up when sleeping. I can replicate it while awake, but it is very hard to actually figure out where it is coming from. I noticed the other night with the full nose piece that when it happened the hose coming into the nose piece was convulsing. The technician at the sleep clinic says that the unit has built in feature to actually stop the flow of air momentarily and that it can be shut off...I just can't seem to think that is the issue as I get while exhaling. My nasal airways are clear Any ideas what is happening

If you aren't going to add the loaner equipment to your profile or else you are going to have to tell us each time what machine you are using and at what settings...including any exhale relief settings.

We have zero ideas without knowing what equipment you are using and we don't have time to go back and try to find out in any of your past threads. I don't want to sound mean...but that's just the way it is.

It's okay to list the loaner stuff in your profile...you can go back later and change it once you get your forever machine.

Can you give more detail about what make and model of a machine you have, what are the max and min pressures set at, and are you using EPR or Flex, and what is that set at? Also the mask make and model would help.

ahhh sorry... it is a dreamstation. I am pretty new to this and have no idea about settings although the unit was set to variable and the technician locked it to 11 today.

DreamStation what model? There's only at least a half dozen or more.
If unsure...there's a model number on the bottom of the blower...starts with DSX and then some numbers after DSX.

To know what your settings are...go into the clinical menu and look.
There is a secret handshake to do to get into that menu...you can look...write down all the settings.
We aren't telling you to change anything...just learn what you are using.
If you don't know how to do the secret handshake...the clinical manual will explain how but first you have to know which model machine you have so you can request the manual from here.

Just because the DME locked something doesn't mean you can't unlock it. Never hurts to look.
