Both heated humidifiers quit on same night...

Post by dllfo » Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:26 pm

We went out of town for the weekend. Hooked up both Respironics Auto BiPAP
machines and their HH. When we tried to turn the humidifiers on, neither would work. We had the correct amount of water. The wires were all connected correctly. I pushed the Heat button to be sure it was working, it showed a "one"
which was the setting I had originally. I took the water contariner off and

Every thing with the BiPAP appears to be working ok. We are back home and the two heated humidifiers don't work.

Any ideas?

was your machine seated correctly on the platform? There is a little round photo eye that sticks up on the platform and matches with a hole on your machine sends sort of a infrared signal to control the humidifier to turn on.

I wasn't aware of the sensor, but I did lift the bipap up and put it back down,
positioning it in the holes. BUT, I will go do it again...right now.

That did not work. More ideas? I also changed filters, I made sure the bottom of the water tank was clean and that the tank was inserted in the machine
correctly.

Dave,
Am willing to bet this is a setup problem. Describe how you have the cables rigged up.

I rechecked the owners pamphlet for the HH. I looked at it several times.
You are right, I knew you had to be....but....oh well....they are both working now.

When Apria set these up the tech told me there was more than one way to wire them, and after looking at the pamphlet I knew he was right.

I think it is fixed, the green light is now on. BUT.......I will have to think about this a little more....when I make a mistake...I am consistent about it. I hate
these meds.

You may want to check your power source where you were staying. If they were using "inverted power", that may be the cause of your problems. Inverted power will blow out the heaters.

Inverted power? Are you referring to True Sine Waves vs Modified Sine Waves (square wave I think they call it)...??

I don't know if the units have to have a True Sine wave or not, never thought about it.

But we were on commercial 110 volt AC. I will check with respironics on that.

I KNOW the drugs effect my memory and my ability to function correctly, but
I would have sworn that I had hooked our units up the same way for the last
several months...AC outlet to the transformer; transformer to the plug in on the back of the BiPAP. The wire coming out of the heated humidifier was plugged back into the HH. This is a good lesson for anyone who doesn't think drugs can adversely effect you.

Thanks DSM...you got me back on the right track

Nitro Dan, did you lose a heated humidifier to an inverter?

Dan...I emailed Respironics, asking them about inverters.

Did you lose both the XPAP and the heated humidifier?

Manual for the HH says its suitable for inverters and UPS with a minimun of 300 watts. My house is powered by a Trace DR2424 modified sine wave inverter and has run my cpap unit from day one, when I stay out in the truck the little Cobra 850 watt powers it with no problems. Havent had a problem with the humidifier on either of the inverters. I wouldnt buy the cheapest inverter I could find to run my equipment, some of them are junk. Just my experiences. Have fun and breathe well, Charlie
