Hi everyone! I have been using a CPAP for 6 weeks after being referred for a sleep study by my cardiologist due to AFIB. My sleep study showed an AHI of 35 and a Central Sleep Apnea index of 15.
I am on Medicare and my DME provided me with a ResMed Airsense 10 CPAP with a fixed pressure setting of 10.
I have adjusted quite well to the machine and full face mask and was able to complete my compliance in the first 30 days. The MyAir readout for AHI has settled into an average of 3.5. Would you expect it to gradually decrease?
I have seen the single pressure machines called a "brick". Also, there is no SD card in the machine and I have to rely on the MyAir data.
Am I within my rights to request an autoset machine and/or one with an SD card? I have an appointment with my Doctor is an couple weeks to verify my compliance but want to know what I might be able to request. I have no reason to believe I need an autoset machine but it seems the DME may be trying to save/make money.
Thanks, Mike

Re: New Member
Your machine is not a brick as it does have an SD card so you can view all the data using sleepyhead.

You can buy an SD card almost anywhere and use it.

Re: New Member
The machine is supposed to come with an SD card. Your DME should have it.

Well...it's a half assed brick.
The ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP machine has very limited data and SleepyHead won't show much if anything.
That SD card...the "CPAP" model only gathers
AHI (generic total and no event categories at all so you don't know what kind of events)
Leak number...95% leak number
hours of use.
Just because a machine has a SD card doesn't mean that there's that much detailed information on that card. With this machine...extremely limited data and not worth installing SH IMHO.
No graphs of any kind...no details.
Not a total brick but what I call a half assed brick.
When using SleepyHead all your get in the place where all the graphs are is Bob the sheep.

To the OP...have you seen this?
https://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/
Scroll down just a little until you see the section for "help I am stuck with a brick".
You do have some options and the first one I would try is simply tell the DME that you want a different model machine that offers more detailed data. Sometimes they will do it with a simple request.
If they won't do it or try to tell you that "your insurance only pays for this one" then go find another DME because they are telling a whopper and I don't know about you but I refuse to do business with anyone who lies to me.
Your choice though.
You can return the machine and get one from another supplier if you wish.

OP - defintely fight for a truly data capable machine.

Thanks for the replies!
The machine does not have an SD card. The slot where it should go has a rubber cover over it and it cannot be removed. This was confirmed by my DME. The data is transmitted via cellular to the MyAir app. There must be some internal storage but I can't seem to access it.
What about the AHI of 3.5? Would you expect it to get better the longer I use the CPAP?

Bull crap.
That little cover can be opened with a fingernail.
Lie number 1. Big surprise.
You need to read this manual.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
The data transmitted...limited to what the machine gathers. If it doesn't gather and record something it can't transmit it.
You can go to WalMart or similar store and buy any generic cheap SD card and it will work in the machine just fine but it only will report whatever the machine gathers.
I have a picture or thread someone where that will show you what I am talking about.
Let me see if I can find it.

See this thread and click on the links in the first post to see what the half assed brick gathers.
SleepyHead won't even report the generic AHI because it needs the other data files to report AHI.

An AHI under 5 means that you are medically treated. With time to get comfortable with your new environment, and possibly some improvement to your treatment, it is likely that your AHI will lower. It seems that most strive to be below 2. Many are less than 1.0. Zero is not the goal as some events will happen even to those who don't have OSA.Oleanmike wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:57 pmThanks for the replies!

If you click on the device link on one of your postings you will see that CPAP.com has the card already in the machine. Mine came in a separate Resmed folder packaged with the machine. If I had not seen it the DME would have kept it.Oleanmike wrote: ↑Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:57 pmThanks for the replies!

Unfortunately if you are past the 90 day compliance period there’s almost no chance in hell your DME would be willing to swap it out for a machine with better data. You can buy your own at Secondwind.com or on Craigslist. One of our members regularly lists good quality machines. Or buy it new and quit paying out to the DME who lies to you and stole the data card.

I should clarify what the DME said. They told me the machine did not have an SD card and they are correct about that. I did get the SD card slot opened and there is no card. I will call them tomorrow to inquire about the machine, it has been about 48 days since they gave me the machine. It is a rental, I do not own it, yet. All costs have been paid by Medicare and my Medicare supplement.
