F & P HC 407 versus Activa Mirage

Post by curtcurt46 » Wed Oct 25, 2006 8:10 am

All,
Has anyone out there used or tried both of these masks. I currently use the activa and am considering trying the HC 407. Comments please on side sleeping and hose management above the head would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I have the FP 407. For me, this is a great mask. It's very light, and very comfortable. The best thing about it is that I can toss and turn, sleep on my side and even on my tummy with the 360 swivel action.
The Activa is heavier, but a good mask.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you have a high pressure setting, this mask may leak.
I ususally run at about 12, and it very rarely leaks.
The key with this mask is not to tighten the straps too much. It leaks a lot if you do!
The other thing I like is that I paid $59.00 dollars for it here on cpap.com. The other masks seem more expensive. I've recommended this to several other people and they like it just as much as I do.

compare the masks

I have and use both the masks, and I am a side or stomach sleeper.

The Activa is big and bulky, but that is offset by how easily it seals to your face. I wear the straps so loose that I can put it on and off without messing with the clips. Just slide it on. The forehead piece usually does not touch my face. The headgear slides on my hair in the back so the mask scoots up my face a bit. I like it very well most of the time. Not many leak problems. It has an extra hose about a foot long. That does get in my way if I don't put the main hose on the hose stand so it has less length. Hope that makes sense. The exhaust annoys me once in a while.

The 407 fits snugly and over a smaller area of the face. The straps are tighter than the Activa, but it has those bottom straps that seem to self-adjust when you move. It has few leaks. It does put more pressure on your face but it seals well. It is light in weight. I like this one too. Not much problem with the hose. I have a hose stand much like the ones you see online which my husband copied for me in PVC pipe.

I change masks often and in the middle of the night too. I think the 407 is less expensive, but I haven't checked that to be sure. I also have the 406 which is the petite version. It barely covers the nose. I like it sometimes.

I am still looking for my favorite mask. Of these 2 I like the Activa slightly better because it is so loose. I don't like the tight pressure on my face. The standard cushion fits me better than the shallow, although I would have expected the shallow to be the right one.

I have a small nose and very little bridge. Your facial features make your results, so you may have a much different outcome than I do. I am just letting you know how it works for me. Hope it helps.
