What do you make of this drastic change of my night?

Post by SelfSeeker » Mon Oct 23, 2006 4:16 pm

OK, I have been using my APAP since Oct 5th, with 100% compliance all night every night and all naps.

Last night at about 8:30pm I took a 3mg capsule of melatonin. I was tired by 10:30 so when I got booted from chat, I could not even think straight to log back on, I called it a night. By the time I turned off the light it was 11:15, I read for a while with mask on, to fall asleep.

I slept straight through until 4:10AM, when I woke up like I was suffocating, I felt like I could not get a deep breath, (e pressure was at 14 )I actually reached over to reduce the CFlex thinking I would get more air. I thought I switched the cflex to 1, (I did not realise that pushing the button once, gives the CFlex mode). I had a nauseating headache, had to go to the bathroom and was thirsty. I finally got up went to the bathroom, took 3 advils and got a drink of water. Night AHI=0.5, events at 14 and 15 pressure instead of all the way at 18. I could not fall asleep with the headache, got back up and stayed awake until the family left then went back to bed and slept for 4 more hours, AHI=0

I included the AHI numbers because, for me they were good. I thought maybe the melatonin would relax the body and I would get higher numbers then usual, I actually got lower numbers.

Yesterday at Lunch I had a glass of wine. I drank less water then usual yesterday.

Even after the nap and all day, I have not felt right.

I have taken melatonin preCPAP, did not work for keeping me asleep during the night. (Of course not, DUH) But I have not expereince the night I did last night.

I plan on breaking up the 3mg capsule and making it a liquid and taking about 0.3mg. (See if this is better.)

I have a headache, my lips are parched, my head is spinning. I am not sure if I am coming down with anything, stressed, or the melatonin.

Has anyone had such a drastic night compared to other nights, what caused it?

I once had a glass of wine after starting APAP, the only difference was the higher AHI.

I can do this, I will do this.

2nd night on Melatonin.

I dissolved (actually more like a suspended liquid) and took 0.3 mg of melatonin.

Within 2 hours I had a nauseating headache. So I took advil again and went to bed. It took more time to fall asleep.

I had trouble with the CFlex at 3 so put it at 1 for the night.

Today I am still tired some 16 hours later.

Also to complicate matters, I have a slight fever, so maybe it is what ever my body is fighting that is causing this or the both together.

I had a bit of a cold two weeks ago, with not problems being on APAP.

For the next few nights I will not take the melatonin and see how that goes.

I hope this is not what it is like when one gets a cold? Yikes.

Like I said, in the previous post, I have taken melatonin in the past without these side effects, big difference I was not on CPAP and I took it right before going to bed.

I can do this, I will do this.

Hi, I think you are very dehydrated (the wine definitely can have that affect) and should be chugging water today - you'd be amazed at the difference it makes, plus it'll wash away anything you don't need or shouldn't have had in the first place.
