Anyone see "Sunday Morning" this morning?
Anyone see "Sunday Morning" this morning?
There was a segment on snoring. The small part about sleep apnea was uninformative and I think did a disservice to people who might be suffering from untreated OSA. It showed a man after falling asleep while driving demonstrating his machine and mask after being diagnosed. The voice over person called it a "contraption", the user was talking with his mask on in the funny way only we users could understand and no mention whatsoever that sleep apnea is a potentially deadly disease. Funny bits of snoring were shown, ie: Popeye in bed snoring, the Three Stooges in be snoring even Steve Martin & John Candy in bed in a clip from Trains, Planes and Automobiles. No where in this segment did I get the feeling that anyone watching would say "Gee, I might have this OSA but look at the buffoonish way I'd have to live if I use that "contraption" just so my spouse doesn't have to leave the room." TV can do a huge amount of good but I guess programs designed to amuse rather than inform get better ratings?

This is one of the reasons why I don't watch television.

MTH, why don't you send your fine email to the Sunday Morning show? They could use the feedback.

Thanks for your account of the segment, M T H,
I didn't see it, but I'm sure sorry to hear that's how it was handled.
I doubt that CBS would have put in comedy clips of people falling down, shaking, etc., if they had been doing a piece on strokes, epilepsy, diabetes, etc.
