Weaning off humidity?
Weaning off humidity?
Currently I use heated hose setting of 1 and humidity of 4. I plan on going camping this year so humidifier is out of question.
Any tips on reducing need for humidifier?
Currently if humidifier runs out of water I can't sleep with the CPAP. Nasal passages feel to drive.
I know in summer it's more humid but I am new so don't know how much of a difference that will make or not.
Thanks.

My solution was the Resmed AirMini. It uses a cartridge system for humidity that works surprisingly well. Expensive option, obviously. Short of that, try weaning down your humidity setting and supplementing with sterile saline nasal spray, available at any pharmacy. Get the Arm&Hammer brand that includes a bit of baking soda. You can use as often as needed.USMCVet wrote:Currently I use heated hose setting of 1 and humidity of 4. I plan on going camping this year so humidifier is out of question.

Re: Weaning off humidity?
Try a little gadget called HME unit . Heat moisture exchange. It attaches to the mask hose and supposed to re-use the moisture you exhale. www.cpap.com has them.

Re: Weaning off humidity?
You can also use passive humidity. Fill up the water tank with water but turn off the humidity as well as the heat setting on the hose. You will still get some humidity from the air going past the tank. You may find in the summer it will be enough. When I went camping last summer I found it to be sufficient.

I read description on website and it says it's not compatible with the Dreamwear mask unfortunately.Cardsfan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 5:21 pmTry a little gadget called HME unit . what do you put into your HH that would require weaning off of. I thought it was like a faucet. water or no water. How did I do it wrong, it's a wonder I'm alive.USMCVet wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 4:49 pmCurrently I use heated hose setting of 1 and humidity of 4. I used my HH for 8 years because it was there, then I tried passover for 4 months, after that I removed the HH and left it off ever since. I keep Ice water by the bed, to sip, I wake up about hourly anyway, crack my eyes open get a sip roll over, and start the next dream.

Re: Weaning off humidity?
You are wise to be preparing ahead of time.
I suggest you check the weather stats in that area when you are there.
I would be prepared to turn the HH off, but put distilled water in it if needed.
Your comfort is non-negotiable--even if you have to sleep "on the grid."
At a certain age, compromise is inevitable.

Re: Weaning off humidity?
This is where I like to go camping. I can take the dogs who can run free and nice beaches and best of all it's free!
I take a small 16' aluminum boat and usually have to make 2 trips. Both times I have gone things have gone wrong. From car tire popping out of cell range in dirt road miles from anything, to driving boat in fog so dense you can't see much past boat to make it to Dr appointment on time and having engine trouble in middle of ride to trailer tires going flat and tools you have not being the right ones for the job.
Each time things worked out and I didn't let it ruin the fun.
Humidifier is pretty much a no go. Humidity will be relatively high with temps most likely in 60's at night.
I'll be running CPAP most likely from deep cycle battery I have. I have one I leave in boat and another just in case and don't want to bring my third with built in inverter that I have used to run laptop for movies and Christmas lights for inside of tent.
Other thing I have to consider though is even though my pressure for machine is 10 now I may have to raise it. I used pulse oximeter last night and my 02 dropped below 88% for 6 minutes. AHI was only 0.7.
As a last resort though my dad lives about 45 minutes away from docks there. So I also have fall back location but the dogs love there freedom.
