I noticed that the display screen was cloudy recently. I removed the protective clear plastic and it was not that. I separated the humidifier and found a blotchy cloudy residue on the mating surfaces.
It wiped off with my finger and i used a damp cloth to clean it up. I always use the ultra-fine and black foam filters in the machine and don't see how dust could get inside the machine.
I decided to open the case up and found this same residue on the LCD screen and inside of case. It was not a total coating like dust but rather blotchy and only in some spots.
I cleaned it up and the display is back to normal.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I'm baffled on what would have caused this. I'm always careful not to overfill the heated humidifier water reservoir and
The machine has never fallen where water might have splashed into it.
PR system one 560 has residue inside.

Other than from people who have wood-burning fireplaces or similar (heavy carbon/soot creating) heaters.......not really.jtravel wrote:I noticed that the display screen was cloudy recently. Those of us who live in dusty parts of the country need to make sure all of our filters fit their openings well.
I've only had one of my machines open a couple of times, but didn't notice anything like what you've described (at those times, the machine hadn't had that much, if any, use).

I don't have a fireplace so that is not it.
The area that houses the LCD and electronics board is outside of the sealed air blower circuit so the contamination must have come from within.
Maybe something on the electronics board overheated and out gassed is all i can think at this point.
It's only 14 months old and more than half that time i was using my airsense 10 autoset.
The system one works better for me in the winter months as far as humidity is concerned.
It's a cleaned inside now so i will just keep an eye on it and see what happens. I will return for warranty service if the residue comes back during the next 10 months.

I've seen sort of what you are describing in two scenarios:jtravel wrote:Den, Thanks for the responseWulfman... wrote:Other than from people who have wood-burning fireplaces or similar (heavy carbon/soot creating) heaters.......not really.

#1 Once in a friend's old car when the motor in the electro-mechanical analog clock in the dashboard fried with a little "pffft" sound, smoked a bit and left a residue on the inside of the plastic window.
#2 I had another friend once whose family started using some type of large humidifier for the home to combat some cold weather respiratory issues. They used local tap water which was extremely hard, something like 220+ ppm calcium which is in the "it does not get any harder than this" category, plus a fair amount of manganese and surely some other minerals. Lots of black plastic surfaces in the house had a noticeable white film.

Re: PR system one 560 has residue inside.
You do not have to have a fireplace in your home to get soot in your stuff.
Your neighbor's will do that, only slower, depending on how well sealed your house is.
Just change filters more often.
Six months is just nonsense. A filter is like a fuse--
a cheap thing to sacrifice in order to save expensive equipment.

Bingo! White mineral Dust was the cause.amenite wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 9:28 pm#2 I had another friend once whose family started using some type of large humidifier for the home to combat some cold weather respiratory issues. We were using a cool mist humidifier in the bedroom at night and it was depositing white mineral dust on several surfaces in the bedroom.
Found a lot of white dust around the filter as well.

Re: PR system one 560 has residue inside.
The white mineral dust is precipitated out from hard tap water.
When using an ultrasonic humidifier, use only distilled water.
Hard water will damage it.
Older style humidifiers are not harmed, but will get nasty.

Glad that mystery is solved, I still have some harder than hard tap water and one night using it in the humidifier requires a vinegar bath to clean up.
