Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
Medicare prefers forever rental with the aircurve machines.

Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
Straight Medicare (not talking about some Medicare Advantage plans) does a 13 month rent to own thing.
The 3 months is the initial trial stage where you have to meet the Medicare requirements..and it is part of the rental time.
You have 90 days to meet the compliance hours of use requirement which is 70% of 30 consecutive nights using it at least 4 hours and the other part of it is you have to have a face to face visit with a doctor prior to that 91st day where the doctors agrees you are using it and it's working for you.
After those 3 months then Medicare continues with the other 10 month "rent to own" and by the end of 13 months you own it and no more payments.
Now Medicare Advantage plans...could be different. I have personally seen a perpetual rental and you never own the machine on a Medicare Advantage plan. So those plans could vary and you would need to check you plan to see how they handle it.
If you have regular straight Medicare...13 month rent to own. It's called a capped rental...capped at the end of a certain period and in this case 13 months.

Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
My Medicare Advantage is 13 month rental, but thereafter the machine is still the property of the HMO, who will only replace it if the machine is unable to be repaired.

Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
People need to look at their own individual policy and confirm exactly what it covers.
I have a Medicare Advantage plan...it says perpetual rental and perpetual required co pays of 20 % and my mom has a different Medicare Advantage plan from a different company and hers says the same as mine.
Not all Medicare Adantage plans are created equal in what they cover or how they cover something.

Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
perpetual rental sounds like you never pay it off. Do you eventually pay more than just buying it outright? Remember when we had to pay monthly "rent" for our landline phones from MA BELL, and that was the only option.

Re: Bpap and 3 month rental
That's my take on it but I don't want to try it to find out.
That's why I tell people with any Medicare Advantage plan to make sure that they get things fully clarified and know ahead of time what to expect.
My prior Medicare Advantage plan just said it followed Medicare guideline but the new one clearly states that I never own it and the rental co pay is forever. At least they put it out there. Most people don't look though.
As to the why the forever thing...beats me. The only people making money off the deal is the DME who gets to bill the 20% co pay.
