Are there cpaps that don't have heated humidifiers?

Post by nawchem » Mon Jan 29, 2018 10:47 pm

I read through my insurance companies DME and it said that I am entitled to the cheapest cpap they can find, if I match their criteria. I started fretting, my first cpap didn't have a heated humidifier and I had to rent it. I've had 2 sinus surgeries and it made me have nosebleeds everyday.

The DME also said that the company that does my sleep study cannot order a cpap for me.
Thanks

Humidifiers are often a separate option, but I don't know if they all heat the water. I do know I have some sinus issues if I run mine without heat. I dont, however, use the heated tube option. Check online andnsee if there is one for your machine that might buy. My prescription called for amheated humidifier. If you can get your doctor to prescribe one, the insurance may have to provide it.

If you can afford to go "out-of-pocket", you should be able to find something reasonably priced. Particularly something that has data-capabilities.

Thanks so much Jim and Den. Jim I will bring surgical report with me, I had to have a lot of my inner nose removed from a terrible infection. Maybe they'll have mercy. Thank you Den my machine is so old its about 6x18 inches. I look at new machines and I don' know what i'm looking at. I ended up buying all my cpap equipment (in 2005). The website is awesome as I may well be buying my own again.

I loved my old machine but I shared a house with a guy last year that loved febreze plug ins. 20 in a 2 bedroom house. The fragrance went right thru my hepa filter and the cpap filters, I'd have to get up in the middle of the night and clean it to get rid of the smell. I develped asthma and multiple chemical sensitivity and my water started turning colors and then infection. I got a new chamber it's still infected so I believe it is in the machine.

I have had a few different medicare advantage plans. Not one of them paid anything for a humidifier, It was all out of my pocket.

Depends on the plan. I have a UPMC Medicare Advantage HMO. My doctor wrote the Rx specifically for a Dreamstation CPAP with humidifier and heated hose, and a mask of my choosing. My insurance plan covered all of it, once I hit the deductible. I feel very fortunate to have decent coverage.

Perhaps if they pay for a CPAP, you can buy the humidifier yourself. I prefer my automatic, but I lived without it for sixteen years.

My min pressure is now 13.5. I made the max 20 (but it almost never reaches 16).

+1

My Medicare Advantage Plan paid for machine and heated humidifier. Bobby somehow got taken. Is it possible that a DME was unscrupulous??
