Question regarding humidity levels with different masks

Post by xcountrygal » Wed Jan 03, 2018 11:57 am

Hi All:
I am @ 2 1/2 weeks into APAP therapy and am having some continuing issues with the mask part of therapy.
I started off on a nasal pillow type even tho I am a mouth breather - wanted to try least restrictive even knowing I would need a chin strap.
After 4 days on the nasal pillows, I developed sinus, nasal and middle ear congestion leaving me miserable even tho my "numbers" AHI were <5. I was using humidity level at 3 and even then getting condensation in the pillows.
Returned to DME and exchanged nasal pillows for full face - however due to the sinus issue where even my glasses felt too heavy, I came home with the Amara View. Two days off of APAP (back to my oral appliance) and beginning Flonase and saline, congestion mostly gone. Am using the FFM at humidity level of 7 (tried 6 part of one night and was parched) with no condensation.
I am wondering why the big difference in humidity level/condensation result between masks. Everything else has remained the same. We do keep our house cool at night (can't sleep with it warm) and here in Wisconsin we have been stuck in the deep freeze for too long so humidity levels in the house are low (to keep from frosting up the windows) - think of it as Arctic desert .
Anyone offer some insight?
I am comfortable breathing with the Amara view and AHI is great - but am having some major issues with leaks. - But that is another forum topic.
Thank you all.

Try these videos..... If you are breathing through your mouth you will use more water from your humidifier
