Need your knowledge
Need your knowledge
I started cpap treatment on Nov.3rd and only had 8 days of 5 or under. When i got my dreamstation auto from the DME they stated that they monitor my results and would inform my doctor of the results. My best was AHI: 2.21 worst AHI: 22.54 i didn't count them but i would say at least 35 of those days were in the teens to low twentys. I do have a appointment coming up on the 8th of this month. I'd just like to have an idea of whats going on before my appointment. Hopefully this link works to view my lasted sleepeyhead data. Thanks for any response https://imgur.com/a/vPhBr
Re: Need your knowledge
So how did they come to set your pressure at 6 cm fixed?
It seems to work well for part of the night but not all of the night?
Any idea if your OSA is worse when on your back or during REM?

Re: Need your knowledge
Your Dreamstation auto is not set to auto. It is set to fixed pressure of 6 which appears to be too low to stop the apneas. In my opinion, your setting should be Auto, with minimum 6 and maximum 12. After a few days adjustments would be made based on the AHI and comfort.

Re: Need your knowledge
Pugsy, I had an overnight sleep study done. I had a lot of trouble sleeping that night but was told they caught enough info to set pressure at 6 cm. I flop from side to side and onto my back all night long not one fixed sleep position so hard to tell what position is worse
Re: Need your knowledge
LSAT, My thoughts exactly for being switched to auto mode. This is going to be what i'am going to ask for at the appointment. I've been so temped to up the pressure my self or switch it to auto mode my self but am leary of doing this because the insurance is still involved in it.

The insurance doesn't care what pressure the machine is set at. They don't even know 10 cm pressure from their hole in the ground. All they care about is you have enough compliance hours.hdbrother wrote: I've been so temped to up the pressure my self or switch it to auto mode my self but am leary of doing this because the insurance is still involved in it.

Re: Need your knowledge
The only think insurance cares about is how many hours a night you use the machine and they won't even know that without the DME telling them.
You need more pressure for some of the night....either because of being on your back or maybe REM stage sleep so a prime candidate for auto/apap mode IMHO.
Either that or more fixed pressured.
As for the titration study not coming up with the optimal pressure...it happened to me too. You didn't get enough sleep to get a good big picture of where your pressure needs might go.

Re: Need your knowledge
When they did my initial settings, it was simply a guess. My sleep study and titration study were both notable for a lack of REM sleep. I made my own adjustments based on what I saw in sleepyhead and now am entering REM every night and resting quite well even though I still get up twice a night due to medication I am taking.

They gave you a machine with a steering wheel, and then chained the steering wheel so it couldn't make right turns. Jim

Take one pill every hour and get plenty of uninterrupted sleep.Okie bipap wrote: I still get up twice a night due to medication I am taking.
Re: Need your knowledge
If the lab wasn't able to catch all sleep stages in all positions, I'm not sure why they didn't utilize the auto mode to gather further information. Maybe you could ask them their reasoning. With their current plan of action, you could go back over and over and keep getting small increases until it works. So much more efficient to use the auto mode. After the machine determines your pressure needs, there's always the option to then set it to the newly determined straight pressure if there's a reason to prefer that mode.

Fix the leaks, Too early to tell if it's mouth breathing or poor mask fit. The machine has a mask fit function, you can also get the clinical manual off of the apneaboard forum
As said, also switch to auto, to find your best pressure.
