Newbie here

Post by Autumn E » Fri Dec 29, 2017 3:40 pm

Hello all!! I am on a really tight budget and cannot afford a sleep study nor CPAP and equipment. I had an overnight oxygen test done and it showed I have apnea. I came across a CPAP community thread titled: Wearing a soft cervical collar to prevent sleep apnea while I was researching alternative ways to deal with apnea, and that of course led me here. I've known for a long time I have apnea and have been using a mouth guard for the past five years with varying degrees of success. Anyhow it's time to try more or different options. I'd read recently about the cervical collar and likewise about a contour pillow. I've been using a contour pillow with the mouth guard for several nights now and it has made a dramatic difference in my quality of sleep. I use a digital recorder at night to record my sleep sounds and I can tell it's very helpful....unfortunately I then spend the whole next day listening to this recording to see how things sounds. I have a homemade cervical collar.....I made it myself based on the dimensions on a cervical collar boxy....like I said, I'm on a tight budget. However, I've been afraid to wear it at night because I'm afraid it will further obstruct things, but reading that thread I mentioned earlier has given me new hope that I can use the collar, the contour pillow and my mouth guard for greater success. I also so a humidifier, saline nasal spray and breathe right nasal strips. I believe all have contributed to me getting better quality of sleep the last few nights. Tonight I'm going to try adding the homemade cervical collar and see how it all helps. Anyhow hello from Colorado!
