S9Autoset
S9Autoset
On S9 auto set, in autoset mode, is this considered a bipap, because it has upper and lower settings. I've noticed some have autoset as the alternate to cpap, while others have the word autoset. Thanks, Have a great New Year!!!

Re: S9Autoset
No...autoSet doesn't necessarily mean "bipap" or bilevel but it might be functioning like a bilevel device if EPR is used to set a different pressure for inhale and exhale. So 2 distinct pressures.
With EPR a person can set the inhale/exhale difference up to 3 cm different...example 10 inhale and with EPR set to 3 that would make exhale 7 cm...and that's essentially a bilevel function.
So by using EPR or exhale relief the machine functions like a little mini bilevel machine.
The real full grown bilevel machines have more than up to 3cm difference offered for the difference between inhale and exhale and the pressures can go to 25 instead of 20 that is available on the AutoSet. Also available on the real ResMed bilevel is a little more tweaking in how that difference between pressures feels and the timing.
On the real full grown bilevels the difference in pressure is called PS and not EPR ...PS being pressure support. Just words really...feels and functions just the same.

Re: S9Autoset
Pressure on the bipap worded is 20 & 5.I can get the same pressures on the autoset worded machine, even down to epr level stating. Would I be getting same results at the mask? Thanks a million, Pugsy. You're a lifesaver!

Re: S9Autoset
Not sure what you are asking.
What are you wanting to do or trying to do?
EPR has 3 settings...1, 2 and 3 and all that means is a 1, 2 or 3 cm reduction during exhale.
With a real bilevel the difference can be 4, 5 or 6 or even higher and inhale can go to 25 where with the AutoSet it can go to 20.

Re: S9Autoset
Bought a used Autoset for friend that has autoset. Trying to match settings and the only difference in the clinician settings is the word bipap on his, and the word autoset on the one I bought. I don't want to give him the wrong equipment. He can't afford a spare. Thanks again.

Re: S9Autoset
Ahh....I see now.
Give me all the settings that his current machine is using...So there's going to be more than 20 and 5.
I need brand, mode and all the settings that show up in the clinical setup menu...
then I can see if we can get close to matching it with the AutoSet.

Re: S9Autoset
Resmed S9 Autoset, upper limit 15, lower limit 5, epr 3, ramp time 15, humidity 4. That's all I have available, as he is out of town with his bipap. Best Incan do, and cannot thank you enough. Real need on his end. Probably not enough info, sorry. I forgot in the original post that his is an autoset model that has the same appearance as the one I bought for him, and the only difference is in the wording when you switch off cpap mode.

Re: S9Autoset
Until we know his current settings on his bipap we can't really do much but I can give you a general way to go.
He's going to have to give you the exact settings.
In general he is going to have a lot more settings available to him on his bipap than you have on the AutoSet.
Depending on the mode and the brand...he is going to have
EPAP min
IPAP max
PS min and PS max (the max is only on Respironics bipaps 60 series or later)
and if using a Respironics machine...if Flex is turned on or off...additional settings for rise time
If he doesn't know how to get to the clinical menu to see all these settings then have him go here and get the manual
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
For the Autoset....the minimum pressure setting...take his EPAP max and add his PS and that will give you the minimum pressure setting on the AutoSet.
Example...if his bipap settings were
9 EPAP
PS of 3
max IPAP of 25
then on the auto set we would start with minimum of 12 and EPR of 3 (that will mean inhale 12 and exhale of 9) and max of 20 since that is as high as it will go.
If his PS is 4...we can't do 4 on the AutoSet but 3 is close enough for comfort and function. If it is more than 4...get with me about further modifications to get the settings a bit closer mainly for comfort.
