Santa brought me a FitBit Charge 2 about 3 weeks ago.
Anyway, the sleep app part of it...I have a thread where I have documented a little of my experience.

It's not perfect but it does fairly well in terms of accuracy for what it does using the heart rate and actigraphy movement thingy to try to determine sleep status. It's missed known awake times in terms of flagging and it was a bitch to set up and get updated so that it showed the sleep stages and you have to have a minimum number of hours asleep to get the sleep stages and sometimes it still won't show them...but it is a lot better than nothing and will give you a reasonable idea what is going on. It's not 100% accurate but it's probably decent enough accurate to get us in the ball park. I was pleasantly surprised.
Hopefully your watch will already be updated to show the stuff...my Charge 2 wasn't and updating it was a bitch because it didn't want to update for some reason. Took me half a day to get it up and running in that area.

I also just got a Charge 2 for Christmas. It'll be interesting to see the sleep data daily. It said I was awake for 50 minutes last night. That doesn't seem right to me, so I'll compare it to Sleepyhead. It also said I rode a bike outside at 11:30 last night! I was getting ready for bed - guess my flossing is more active than I thought!

Yeah, gotta love it.Rainmom17 wrote: It also said I rode a bike outside at 11:30 last night! I was getting ready for bed - guess my flossing is more active than I thought!
My previous FitBit said I walked 7,737 steps one day when I rode the riding lawn mower and did a couple of hours of mowing.
We just have to remember how these things measure anything with movement and they assume movement means awake and it might not necessarily be the case when it comes to sleep.
That's why I say it is good but not perfect.

I also use one. They also use acceleration as well as movement to determine what you are up to, so the steps and bikes and run stuff are subject to errors. I pretty much use the sleep stage stuff as an interesting guestimate. Since I flop around a good bit when I sleep I usually have about 30 wakes in a night. However I also use the off/on method to see how many time I wake with my CPAP, that is 3 to 4 most nights.

Re: New to Fitbit - Anyone use one?
I bought my husband one for his birthday. He really likes it, but when he's close to step goal (sometimes up to 20,000 steps a day!) we laugh because he can reach his goal by petting the dog for those last few steps! And I've heard other knitters say that their knitting is counted as steps.
OTOH, when he is working out in our family room, the dog comes in to "help" and you can see where he is interrupted to give the dog a scratch. His heart rate changes!
He feels like the sleep tracker is pretty accurate for him. It matches what he experiences--fragmented sleep and all.

Re: New to Fitbit - Anyone use one?
I been wearing a Charge 2 for over a year now, handy little tool. I keep track of sleep, some I don't agree with, sometimes I will go to bed early (i fall asleep pretty quick) and it will say I went to sleep 2 hours later...rocking in my recliner will read steps so I have to watch that...lol, I can rack up the steps that way. Actually lost around 30 lbs wearing it, more conscious of what I eat and how my exercise is during the day. To you that just got them they are quite nice...

Re: New to Fitbit - Anyone use one?
I've been using a Fitbit for nearly 2.5 years. Bought the entire family and my daughters' significant others one as well. Currently, I have the Alta. I find the sleep analytics to be very helpful and reasonably accurate. For example, when I wake up feeling rested and eventually log on to my computer or check the FB app, it provides data that "verifies" I had a decent night's sleep (which I define as having been in deep sleep state 60+ % of the time). The same when I wake up feeling lousy.
I've been using my Dreamstation for about 7 weeks now, and I am finding that the FB readout corresponds pretty closely with the Dreammapper and Sleepy Head apps (note to non-techies - if the software sits on your desktop or laptop rather than your smartphone, it's still an app(lication)). The net - while it's true FB's algorithm can miss or misinterpret things, once you allow for that, it's a pretty useful tool.
Cheers,
MC

Re: New to Fitbit - Anyone use one?
I've used my Fitbit Charge 2 for 3 nights and so far the data has consistently shown that I get an adequate amount of REM sleep but far too little deep sleep. This matches my sleep study (and explains why I'm still tired so much of the time). Will work on ways to increase deep sleep.
